TWRA Wildlife Manager Randy Cromer said the single action 22 caliber revolver was sitting on the table with other guns. He said the gun went off when a woman tried to move it.
"It's my understanding that the lady who moved the weapon was standing on that side, and the father was down range toward the burm," said Cromer.
The gun then discharged and shot a 13-year-old boy in the stomach. A helicopter flew the teen to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Although the wound was traumatic the teen is expected to make a full recovery.
"He's very lucky. If it had been anything that had any kind of a hunting bullet in it or something it could have torn a hole in him a yard wide," said Jerry Cherryholmes, a local hunter.
The accident happened during what is called a cold range when all shooting is supposed to stop. Shooters are supposed to unload their weapons and not touch them while they check their targets and marksmanship.
"This gun was loaded and because it was single action it very well could have been cocked (TWRA Wildlife Manager Randy) Cromer said.

"Wow" to the highlighted remarks. I doubt the child is a "yard wide" to begin with, and a wildlife manager that doesn't know how a SA works.
