My challenge to you

Alright guys, I've got a little challenge I'd like to throw out. Take your favorite knife, fill an empty two liter with water, and attempt to cut it in half. A good sharp knife with good edge geometry will do it. Post results here. Winner gets the pride of having a good knife lol. Just trying to keep things intresting.

Knife is one of my custom bowies. Specs are 19 1/4" overall. 13.5" blade. 12.25" cutting edge. 1084 steel hidden tang blade. 5160 hand guard, Burmese Rosewood handles. Weighs 21 oz.

A gallon milk jug will also suffice, though its easier to cut than the soda bottles are.

Well you said milk jug and I happen to save them to use as targets for my son. So tomorrow I will give this challenge a swing with my Cold Steel Kukri.

Does it have to be a "knife"?
I have a sword from the Civil War years that will do this.

It can be anything, including a shovel as mentioned above. Just take it as a general challenge, and post a video when you do it.

Fast, clean cut and you won't get wet. I stayed dry as a bone on both those. And that khukri should make a neat job of it.

Challenge accepted! I don't drink soda, so I used a fabric softener gallon jug.

Very nice. Mind if I ask some specs on the knife?

Edit: Pretty sure thats the rasp Bowie we made with you and your son. If so, I'm glad to see another Flatwoods Forge knife makes the cut (pun intended) Edited by Spots

Indeed it is the one we made. My son would claim he did all the work, but we know the truth. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing the knife you helped forge slice through a gallon jug like a hot knife through butter!

I wasnt able to get to the challenge this morning (too much time wasted on the phone dealing with other issues). Now have my son doing his homework so I can start dinner. So it looks like the challenge with be done first thing in the morning.

Challenge complete and I am trying to get the video to upload to Photobucket. I have tried it three times and each time the video stops uploading after a minute or so. So I tried Facebook and what I got there is "This video is still encoding. Please try again later." I will leaving it connected and go about my day and hopefully something will happen. LOL

Added;
I still cant get the video to upload to Photobucket. Anyone have a suggestion? I uploaded it to Facebook but can figure out if I can post it here from FB. I guess I suck at this. LOL Edited by buck1032

I still havent been able to get the video posted so here's the run down. I used my small Cold Steel Kukri. I believe its a 16 incher but I am too lazy to go down stairs to measure it. LOL I used a gallon milk jug filled to the very top with cold tap water. I hit the jug just above the half way point at an angle and much like the other videos the bottom half stayed put and the top half just sort of slipped off. Very cool challenge. I may have to clean up my Panga Machete and give that a try. LOL

You should be able to post a link to the FB video. If not, try uploading it to Youtube.
