I really wish i hadnt left comcast for this crap... i had no problems ssh'ing back to the house. Now, i've switched to AT&T and the ******* thing wont work for the life of me. I can get it to run out port 80... but that causes all sorts of problems. Anyone know if AT&T blocks 443..:D

I hate working IT...

Not that I am aware of, but if you got a Westel Router in the deal, that may be part of it. I've had them NAT, even when I turn NAT off. The netopias are a bit better, but still a pain to configure.

If you're not using your own router, you would be better off getting one and setting the DSL modem to passthrough or bridge mode, or dmz the router......

Openvpn is your friend.

Run your server on your laptop or desktop at work, or whenever you need to connect to the house. At the house, have the client try to connect to you every minute or so. You can use one of these mobile DNS services so the house can always hit you if you have to. Easier if you have a static IP. Worked very well for me when I was flying around alot. Works on windows as far as I know.

I too have ATT with a Westel router. Making it less of an annoyance would be a very helpful tip. (I also have a Linksys wireless router, but it's not as much of a problem unless it's acting up)
