Richard Louis Proenneke is my idol. He did it and made it look easy. It certainly wasn't. I know the difficulty for him was great but I bet his stress levels were not even measurable ey were so low. I bet he tossed and turned for 30 seconds or so before he fell asleep at night.

In another life, I would live that way.


What a life. Fresh fish and berries for breakfast and maybe some caribou for dinner. Spend the morning cutting firewood and the afternoon crafting new parts for the cabin.

That man was great, I saw the show on PBS, very good show.
I could not live like that, would need my OL close, She would not live there.

This kind of stuff interests me greatly... surviving alone in the wild, being completely independent. It's a shame it isn't more common, I think that people like this guy really set a standard that more people should strive for... and not even necessarily alone, but even a family homestead is a great, admirable thing.

Living off the grid would be great.....to bad there isn't more of us that don't need a whole lot....community is great but unless people work together for a common cause to help each other its usless

I lived in Alaska for a few years. I lived in civilized Alaska, but did make my way around a bit. If I were to ever go off the grid, it wouldn't be in Alaska. I think Texas would be more suitable. :) 

 

I loved the PBS episodes of Richard Louis Proenneke. It certainly makes you want to move up there and make a go of it. Many people can, but many, many more are unsuccessful.
