Upsidedown Fire

I have been making fires for heat for almost 20yrs now and this blew me away. I have had "my" way of getting what I thought was a hot fire for the fireplace/woodstove. I was at a friends a couple of weeks ago and he had a fire going that was unbearable hot until about 5ft away. He said he has had to open windows when he makes this fire because the house gets to hot inside. He showed me how to make it and today I figured I would give it a shot. It worked and It has been going for 3 hours now and I have done nothing to it, partial because the one time I did I singed my hair off before I even reached in the fireplace. It has raised the temp in the house 15 degrees and now have to open the windows. I can't believe I had never heard of this before. Tried this yesterday....

The one thing I did NOT do that well was to close the gaps in the wood. But other than that it was awesome.

3 hrs. No messing with the fire. No smoke. And very little ashes.

Thanks for the post
