Granted, laws vary state to state, but a blanket statement like this is irresponsible or due to ignorance.

Still, stores like Layman's Gun Shop in Lower Windsor Township are feeling people's anxiety.
Manager Tony Chalfant said he's sold more assault weapons and personal protection guns than hunting guns in recent months.
"That has changed over the years," he said. "Everybody views an assault weapon as something different. An example would be AR-15 style is a semi-automatic. You can't hunt with one."

Hes an idiot that makes us all look bad. My main hunting rifle is a semi automatic 30-06. Must be an assault weapon, since you can't hunt with a semiauto.

A quick Google search validated that you can't hunt with a semi automatic rifle in Pennsylvania, which is where this story originated.
So...I guess it follows, then, that if your state law doesn't allow you to hunt with a semi-automatic rifle you shouldn't be allowed to own one either. ;)

I wonder if they have similar restrictions against semi-auto shotguns???

I'm sorry Robert, I'm not following you. The guy says in the same paragraph that he's sold more assault weapons (yes, I know...) than hunting rifles recently.

It was a different manager at a different store who said he didn't sell them. I didn't comment on him because I agree that his stance is idiotic.

Sorry Robert, wasn't trying to be confrontational. I'm just easily confused :D

Really, assault weapons, what is the definition of an "assualt weapons?" In my mind, this lable should be for actual military grade modern rifles. Not for semi-auto, one pull of the trigger, one shot, rifle that LOOKS like military grade.

Its like calling a Mall Security Guard a Cop, cause he has on a similar uniform.

From Miriam-Webster online....took the opportunity to post it on FB...get the holiday drama started early! :)

[background=rgb(232, 236, 245)] assault rifle
noun (Concise Encyclopedia)[/background]
Military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire. Light and portable, yet able to deliver a high volume of fire with reasonable accuracy at modern combat ranges of 1,000–1,600 ft (300–500 m), assault rifles have become the standard infantry weapon of modern armies. Their ease of handling makes them ideal for mobile assault troops crowded into personnel carriers or helicopters, as well as for guerrilla fighters engaged in jungle or urban warfare. Widely used assault rifles are the U.S. M16, the Soviet Kalashnikov (theAK-47 and modernized versions), the Belgian FAL and FNC, and the German G3.
Didn't the anti-gun lobby coin the term "assault rifle?" Personally I cringe every time I hear the word.

No,. Assault Rifle is a valid military term. Assault Weapon is a term that was coined by the anti-gun lobby. They are not the same thing.
