I've been looking at a new press to replace my blood boiling, acid reflux inducing, hair pulling, knucke dragging, POS Lee Progressive. ;)

Anyways, i'm torn between a Dillon 550 and the Hornady progressive. I've heard lots of good stuff with the Dillon but what about the Hornady?

Dies are cheaper, its cheaper, and all of the Midway reviews are phenomenal. Plus the Hornady is auto indexing. What do you all think?

I would aslo like to hear peoples responces. Im looking at the dillon 650 but when i found out what it would cost with all the extras i have began to look at the hornady press.

Also if you dont already know hornady is throwing in 1000 xtp bullets via rebate with the purchase of their progressive press.

I have one and I love it. Most of the problems people have with the Hornady press are caused by the operator.

I was also looking at the Dillon until I found the Hornady.

I respect the Hornady brand. But this is coming from a single stage kind of guy...

It works fine if you keep it clean and put a .17 cal. cleaning rod inside the primer tube on top of the primers. It helps them feed smoothly and you can tell when you are getting low on primers.

I've also heard tales about the ejection bar at the last station touching the bottom of the die on the downstroke. Had any problems?

If you use dies other than Hornady you might have problems. I have a Lee fcd in the last station, I had to take a Dremel and make a notch in the die to clear the ejection wire. I think the ejection system is the presses weak link.

Well heck. If thats the weakest thing theres really nothing to worry about. I can live with ejecting by hand if it becomes a problem.

The more i look at it i think im gonna go with the dillon 650. I called them the other day to talk about it and i coudnt believe the service i received.

Both Hornady's and Dillons service is unmatched. I've called both...even with Hornday being a much larger company...service was phenomenal.

Plus, according the gentlemen i spoke with, Hornady will pretty much fix anything for nothing no matter how it happened. Same as Dillon.

I guess it almost comes down to whether you like the color red or blue.:screwy:

I am looking at the L-N-L AP to set right next to my trusty Lyman T-Mag. I started looking about a month ago and the best I can figure is the L-N-L here's my reasons

1 L-N-L bushings to make easy swap outs with little adjustments, whereas the Dillon you need a whole other "tool head" or you will have to readjust the dies everytime. You will need shellplates for each

2 simpler powder delivery system. L-N-L uses a regular throw type measure, whereas the Dillon uses some kind of chargebar contraption.

3 auto indexing at the cost of the non auto 550b.

4 optional case feeder is cheap compared to the $200 Dillon case feeder

I'm sure there is more but that is what leaned me. Now all I have to do is save some $$ to buy one.

Sold my Dillon 550 to get a Hornady Lock-N-Load and have been nothing but "pleased" with my purchase. The ejector spring is a weak link however, the powder drop more than makes up for it in "very" consistent drops. 5 stations vs. 4 means a little quicker time frame and I think the customer service from both is outstanding (too bad more companies don't follow their lead) Can't really go wrong with either!
