Goodman & Pope Show on same weekend (6/20-22)?

I checked the websites for the Pope and Goodman gun shows in Franklin and Nashville...looks like they are both on the same weekend. If you had to choose one show to attend, which one would it be? It seems kind of weird to me that the two would be scheduled for the same weekend.

I would go to the Pope show, but it could be a toss up, a lot of the same guys attend both shows. I guess you could go to one on Sat and one on Sun.

Bah. Neither. They're both crap IMHO. I remember when you could find good deals in gun shows... most guns are retail and higher at those things.

But, if i HAD to choose, it would probably be the Pope one. Usually has more stuff to look at.

I agree that it is odd to have two shows on the same weekend.

I am aware of Bob Pope's show. Untill this post, ignorant of Goodman's.

(I also have to say, I have an interest AT the Pope Show and will be there)

So,,,,,,,, I'll vote for Bob Pope's show!! :D

With that being said I'll be in that Brentwood/Franklin area to pick up a gun case, so I'll really have no choice but to stop by the show.

Yea, I don't go to shows expecting amazing deals anymore, but I usually do find enough stuff to make the entry fee worth it. A lot of items I am usually after are hard to find and online only...add in the shipping cost and sometimes it is better to get them at a show. Plus, the people watching is usually second to none.

At the last Chattanooga show I did find boxes of .38 special for $12/50....Sportsman's Warehouse wants $16, so buying a few boxes of that made it worthwhile. The $110 OTD AR-15 lower was also a good buy IMO. All the dealers around here want $110 + tax and background.

I only go to a few shows a year myself and as I'm not in the market for a lamp or a pocket knife, I just go to the Pope shows ;-)

It certainly isn't new to have a Goodman and Pope show on the same weekend. Most dealers are loyal to Pope and they are always better attended than Goodman.

I have only been to one RK show, but I found it to be full of mostly crap. And it was in a dirty facility. I just wasn't in the least bit impressed.

I will go to the Pope show which is about the only one I go to each year.

The Goodman show is once a month and the Pope show is once every couple of months. Th ePope show is bigger and most dealers attend it because of it being only a few times a year. They can always go to the Goodman. The Goodman show is typically small when they are both in town.

The Goodman book and knife show was kind of a letdown last time I went...

I have a neighbor who is a dealer and he chose the Goodman show to set up at so I'll probably go there to see what he has new. Then again I may wind up going to both. Deals aren't what they used to be but there is always enough there to get my attention.

I just got back from the Pope show in Franklin and honestly it was the worst show I had ever been to. They might as well have called it the knife, painted indian feather, book, wood carving and deer antler show. I purchased a couple AR mags for $10 each just to feel like I didn't completely throw away $10 on admission. I'm tempted to try the Goodman show tomorrow, but I fear the story may be the same. Others may find something good, but I thought it was pretty lame.

I just got back and thought the same thing. Very few vendors and not much of a crowd. I took my 12 year old son and he commented that it "sucked". Gotta love kids. :D

It was nice spending time with the boy though. We fondled some AR's. He seems to like them. He tried to talk me in to spending money I didn't have on one.

Don't forget Katana exhibit as well!

I went to both. Bob Pope show seemed much smaller than in the past. They didn't have any vendors down in the pit, so there were less items to browes through.

The fairgrounds probably had a few less vendors than in Franklin. I really wish I would have purchased one of those range bags for $20. I think that was one hell of a deal that guy had on bags.

In the end, neither were very impressive, and both should be ashamed to charge what they do for admission.

Just curious. With RK doing a show a month in Smyrna, has this killed the Franklin show? Or is it just a normal summer in the gun biz and RK's show next week will suck too?

I went to both today and the Pope show was the smallest I recall. There are always fewer but there were a lot fewer and not a lot of people buying. The Goodman had less vendors and less people, but since it is in a smaller venue it looked close to the same, it wasn't. But it was pretty lame too.

Probably a combo of things. Summer is slow anyway and a summer show with both events isn't going to be as good. The fall can handle it OK, but I guess it is too much for summer. The gas prices don't do much to encourage people to travel far for a deal unless they are almost certina they will get one. The days of great deals at gun shows are over. And really who can blame the dealer, they don't want to give away stuff.

I doubt the RK shows have anything to do with it. Those shows suck and the majority of gun dealers I know think it's just about a waste.

As far as admission goes, it is what it is. They know some less will be there, but I doubt they planned for that small of crowds. Like a movie which you pay admission for and may in the end think it sucks a gun show or any exhibit could be a gamble. Pope did have less vendors, but again if you go to gun shows in TN in the summer that is expected. This is a state where hunters go to gun shows in big numbers and hunters don't care about hunting in June.

I went to the Goodman show and it seemed to be more of an accessory show than guns. The tables were all full but I think that they had some people spread out so that you didn't think that there were less vendors. I was very dissappointed as was a friend that went with me. His words, "This is a ripoff." I also heard the the Pope show was also a big letdown. I had considered going there tomorrow but that will not happen now.
