New purchase - Ruger American

Every year I let my son pick out a Christmas present for me. This year he picked out a Ruger American rifle in 30-06. I just got to handle it briefly before putting it away for Christmas, but it seems like a solid rifle. Sort of reminds me of the Savage Axis but with a better (adjustable) trigger. I think he picked a Ruger since he knows I got a Ruger SR-22P for him to use to improve his handgunning skills. I expect it to be a serviceable budget rifle once set up with some decent optics.

I love the build of these guns, and the action is super nice. I just wish they would have put some sights on this gun... I know it's a hunting rifle meant for a scope, but I like shooting with iron sights!!!

That was a detractor for me as well. I guess it was one of the corners they cut for the price point.
