sorry for the wierd first post. I was trying to post from a cell phone. I'm really bummed. Don't get to do many things with both my sons, and we pick the week that the Norris range is closed.

Drive on up the interstate to the 141 exit. The Royal Blue/North Cumberland TWRA range is up there.. Just bring a truck or suv.. Cars might have some trouble.

Wanting to shoot rifles so indoor ranges are out. I just went online, it looks like all the twra ranges are closed during deer hunts.

Any guess if they are open? we are back in knoxville and I don't want to drive that far and find another closed sign.Many twra ranges say closed during deer season

John Sevier Hunter Education Center (JSHEC)


[b]JSHEC is closed the first full weekend of each month. [/b]
Pistol, rifle, and archery ranges are open on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00-6:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM, and Sundays from 1:00-6:00 PM [b]All pistol, rifle, and archery range users need to check in before 5:00 PM [/b]
Shotgun ranges are open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-6:00 PM [b]Saturday and Sunday shotgun range shooters need to check in before 5:00 PM[/b] Shotgun ranges are open on Tuesday from 6:30-10:00 PM [b]Tuesday night shotgun shooters need to check in by 7:00 PM[/b] The range charges $6.00 for every 25 targets used in addition to the $5.50 daily facility fee.
There are two clubs located on-site that provide additional opportunities for archery and gun related programs: Smoky Mountain Archers and the [url="http://www.vrpc.info/"]Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Club[/url].
[b]Daily/Annual Fees Required To Use The Facility[/b]
Adults (16 and older) - $5.50 per 2 hrs or $101.00/year
Youths (15 and under) - $1.50 per 2 hrs or $26.00/year
Target distances on the rifle/pistol bench are 15 yards, 50 yards, and 100 yards.

I started shooting there some about 5 years ago, gates always open during public hours as per my post above. There is no card for general public, you have to pay the hourly rate each time, and check in at main station before going to range. Haven't been over there in the last year, year and a half, so any changes to that must have occurred since I quit going.

The Volunteer Club is a separate org. within the facilities, where the card access to gate comes into play.

Guess I'm late to reply to this, but the North Cumberland WMA range is open 365 days/yr from daylight til dark except for the rare times when they're mowing the grass or doing range maintenance.
