They took me off of the mountain, now can they take the mountain out of me?

I've done something that I never thought that I would do. I gave up my beloved mountain side home where I really felt at home. I was in love with the solitude, the vistas, and the fact that I could shoot whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted without bothering anyone. Well I wound up getting married and moving into the city because my wife's mortgage is 1/2 of my rent. As I am a seasonal worker it just made sense financially since I will be off work the next few months and she would have had an hour commute each way from my place. We will be looking to move back to the mountain in the spring when I start working again. Hopefully we will be able to find our permanent home with a nice piece of secluded land. In the meantime I'm trying to act civilized while living in the suburban jungle. It ain't easy!

My sympathies. I always wanted a moutain or at least a hillside home. The view. The privacy and solitude. Looking down on all the little people.

Oh man, do I understand your struggle. I spent four years in the wasatch mountains, in Utah. I've NEVER felt more at peace than when I was in the mountains.

I put myself at ease, most days, by remembering that I will return to the mountains one day. Here's to hoping we find our way back...

Where were ya? I spent the first year after I got out of the AF living in Ogden /Salt Lake corridor.

I lived in Park City. I have family in Ogden and spent much of my youth visiting there.

My wife and I plan on moving back, some day. We have our eyes on Heber or Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I will only be away a few months. One of my favorite things to do was wake up on a slightly cool morning before sunrise and sit on the porch and watch the sun rise. If I try to do that now I get to watch hoopties drive by with their subwoofers rattling my windows instead of deer crossing the yard. Already missing the peace and quiet.

Get back ASAP, suburban life is for the birds. I'll be out of the burb's eventually but man, how sweet it'd be to look out ANY window in my home and not see another house.

You just need to work a little harder at fitting in. Maybe you need to invite your neighbors over for some lawn mower races and Pabst Blue Ribbon then afterwards throw some squirrel and raccoon up on the grill. Or how about a friendly pig or duck calling competition. Maybe a friendly front yard production of "wrastlin" for them to watch as they get home from work.

I just think you need to try harder to make them fit in.
