It also means the Merita plants as well. I know some people that work there. It sucks but this is a chance you take when you strike, now no one has a job. Hostess owns these brands
We eat several of these brands everyday. Now production has stopped on them until someone else buys that brand. I bet Bread prices go up. If this were a gun related company, ammo would double and be extremly hard to get. Lets see how it affects food prices. Edited by Lions Fan

I hate to, but I'm going to have to agree with Caster here. ;) Twinkies are more American than apple pie. Everyone should at least try one.

Correct me if I'm wrong was it not over 30 cents a hour. pension may have been involved.
I know when I got laid off I would have gladly given up 30 cents to keep my job. Edited by laktrash

I would tend to agree with this. ;)

I hate to see Hostess shut down but I'm sure some other companies will buy up the brands.

Unions at it again. While I'm sure there's 2 sides to this story the common theme in stories like this are the Unions.

The good news is that stockpiles of twinkies will not expire until 2037, so we may be good without them for a few years.

We've got a Hostess plant here in town and now we've got 280 more people without jobs.

Make sure you point your finger at the right place when people get angry. Even the Teamsters union wanted
to accept a deal to keep their jobs. It was the rank and file and the local leadership who rejected it. They made
their bed, and get to sleep in it.

If the unions wanted to accept a deal for a strike, then that means they started a strike in the first place. The management could've let them step into this mess, and even if that is so, it's the union's fault for not having the correct information from the beginning.

The only part I know about is that Hostess stated they were closing down 3 offices or something like and initiating an 8% paycut across the board to everyone (Not sure if higher ups are involved) and then the union striked. Well you gotta respect the company though stating that you can either work or look for a new job. Personally, my butt wouldn't have striked in the first place. 8% paycut isn't too bad vs getting paid nothing.
They make both of those as well. My Preggo wife just freaked when she found out they own edys as well. I guess I will participate in the panic. I guess it is off to the store for Ice cream and a chest freezer. Edited by Lions Fan

Remember this. It makes no difference what the negotiated benefits are if there aint a business to work at and a job to do. Another case of killin the goose who laid the golden egg and puttin more folks on the dole. Welcome to nobama's workers paradise.
