My Walthers have changable backstraps but did not come with a tool to do the job. Does anyone know what I neeed to push the little pins out with? Its a circular pin looking thing that looks like it should slide out. I would like to try the smaller strap on my P99.

You'll likely need the correct sized punch, just like I'll need with the XD(M). I tried a small screwdriver, but that pin wasn't moving. I tapped pretty darn hard, and it still wasn't moving. I gave up until I get the correct punch.

One would think with the price of these guns & the fact they give 2 or 3 changable backstraps that they would throw the punch in to.

My thoughs, exactly. SA throws in the allen wrench for adjusting the gear, so I assumed they would have done the same for the backstrap pin. I don;t have a punch set, so I'm trying to find out if anyone knows the correct size needed. The XD(M) manual says to use the "correct" punch, but never mentions what the "correct" punch is.

I can't comment on the P99, but I have two P22's and I used a small allen wrench and it was very easy to just push the lower pin out, I just went to my safe and tried it again to be sure.

You might give it a try, if it is too hard to push out maybe mine is just a fluke...I don't know??

HK uses roll pins in the backstraps of the P2000 and new P30 and HK45 handguns. They do not provide the punch for them either. I fail to see why this is such a shortcoming. Sure, they could but manufacturers have to draw the line somewhere and assume that the buyer will take on the immense burden of providing their own hand tools. :chill:
