Good Entry Level Red Dot for AR-15

Hey guys,

I just purchased my first AR-15. I went with the Bushmaster ORC. I'm looking to get a good entry level Red Dot. I just purchased my weapon and it's my 3 year anniversary so I'm kind of tight on money right now. I will upgrade in the future, but for now I am looking at:

Bushnell TRS-25
or
Others made by Truglo

Do yall have any input/experience? Any other suggestions?

For what you'll pay for the Bushnell vs the value, save a bit more and get a Vortex Strike Fire or SPARC. They come with the mounts, 2x doubler and a life time warranty.

Primary Arms also makes a well accepted red dot. They are reasonable and have a rock solid warranty.

I had a friend who used a Truglo overseas and it worked fine even after being used and abused.

If you get ANY Bushnell get the model number 73-0131. I have checked a lot of red dots and it is about the only Bushnell that will not get washed out in bright light. They are also reasonably priced at under $100. We have had one for about 6 years now and it has been flawless the entire time.

Another +1 on the primary arms. I have the m3 version on my Saiga 308. It's a little big but I like it nonetheless; if i were to do it again, the microdot better for a few bucks more would be better.

They have very good customer service also.

I have A Bushnell TRS-25. It works very well for what it is. I got mine off amazon for $80.00.

I have a Primary Arms on a forward canted mount. It leaves enough room for a quick-disconnect or flip-to-side mount for a magnifier and also for a Magpul MBUS rear site, all on the top rail without having to move anything onto the foregrip.

I have a primary arms micro dot (aim point t1 clone) and it is rock solid. Holds a fine zero even after taking it off the gun and chucking it across the field. Put it on an American defense mount, and then when you upgrade to a real aim point you will already have a great mount.

if anything get the pa micro but not if it is a hd gun, marshall even says do not use it on one, but i recommend not buying anything and practice with irons. why blow that 100 now when you could be already 100 towards a great rds like the aimpoint PRO that can be had on midway for 370?

I've got a Vortex Strikefire and a Bushnell TRS-25. The Vortex is about double the price, but it is a fine site. Mine does red and green and is visible in bright sun. Not to knock the Bushnell, as it is a solid built sight and is reasonably bright. If you want to co-witness from a standard A-Post, you will need a riser for the TRS-25. My son has a Tru Glow that he uses on his airsoft. More bulk than the TRS-25 and maybe not as bright. I gave it a once over but haven't shot anything with it.

I guess I am too cheap. I have the BSA red dot. I think I paid 25 for it. It works and I spent any extra money on ammo.

Thank you guys. I appreciate all the input. I ended up going with a Vortex Strikefire. I got a great deal and feel confident after your opinions and some further research.

I got the Bushmaster ORC so I don't have irons, but I did buy some Magpul front and rear sights that I will be practicing with first.
