Too cold to fish? Where?

My father's going to be in town this weekend for 3 days, and my nephew is really excited to see his "Poppy".

This morning I got an urgent call from the 8-year-old expressing his delight that "we're going fishing with Poppy!". This is news to me!

I've never really been successful at fishing this late in the year, is anything even still biting?

I usually head up to Marrow Bone Lake to fish in the spring and summer - but that's a bit of a hike from Spring Hill TN to keep an 8 year old's interest. Any suggestions a little "closer to home" for some bank fishing?

I would think crappie would be good. Not sure o the lake temps there but as long as they're above 45 degree you should be able to catch crappie.

Here is a link to crappie and how they react to water temp. It starts in spring and goes to winter. So scroll to the bottom to find this time of year.

If you are in Spring Hill there are lots of little lakes close by.
At thge UT experimental farm there is a good lake. My father in law has been catchibg bass up to two pounds there the last few weeks.
On Carters Creek Pike where it intersects with Coleman Road there is a pay to fish Lake that I have seen several people fishing at.
Go to this link and you can search for places close to you:
