Is it a form of harassment of gun owners?
Those who leave their brass are litterbugs but does that give "officials" the right to search your car?

Why don't they ask the Illegal Aliens to pick up their trash?

Drivers were quizzed about their shooting habits and had their vehicles searched by Forest and National Park rangers at a checkpoint in Redington Pass, Arizona this past weekend.
Citing the problem of firearms enthusiasts shooting their guns near the main road and leaving empty bullet casings, the feds stopped and searched vehicles to check if the empty rounds had been picked up.
“A driver admitted shooting, but did not have the empty casings. A Game and Fish officer turned him around and told him to pick up his empty rounds,” reports KVOA.
The officials also searched vehicles for other illegal items, including marijuana, alcohol and in one case an illegally killed deer. Four people were arrested on outstanding warrants and officers issued 11 citations, including one for underage drinking.
News reports failed to raise concern about the fact that law enforcement officials used the Fourth Amendment-busting checkpoint to quiz shooters about their gun habits, claiming that, “Many who went through the checkpoint appreciated the enforcement.”

That and pick up your damn brass when you shoot in a National Park. And don't drink. And don't smoke illegal drugs. And don't illegally kill wildlife. And generally be respectful, conscientious of other people enjoying the Park. It sounds like they've had many complaints, things were getting out of hand, and they're stepping up enforcement/trying to stem the flow of stupidity. Gun owners are their own worst enemy sometimes.

I would rather them tell the retards to go police their brass than shut the park down to shooting. I'm surprised they didn't do the latter.

Wouldn't the latter be contrary to federal law? I don't know, I'm asking.

^^^ If they have probable cause to believe you've committed a crime then I believe they have probabl cause to search your vehicle and if they find stuff you shouldn't have then you have a problem. The law is supposed to protect us from "unreasonable" searches, not from all searches.

I may be wrong but I believe park rangers have similar if not the same powers within the park(s) as any other law enforcement officers. Edited by RobertNashville

Nowhere did I read that people were searched without consent. If they ask and you say yes, then the 4th doesn't apply. Also, if you obeyed the law and weren't a jerk while shooting, you said yes I did, and yes, I did and worst case you show them the spent casings. Meanwhile, the people that helped cause the roadblock hopefully got turned around to fix their mess.

I think you are just mad at the cops and not the ********s who were the root cause of all of this....
