Lets take those who are having the hardest time and "op out" of helping them. This is nothing more than a way for the government to have another generation of those who are slaves to the welfare system.

So they must not have dictionaries where they are at. This definition reads like step one of their standards program. Are they just too lazy to address kids as individuals with individual learning traits and abilities. People need to stop creating racial division everywhere they can.

I am torn on this issue. I am one of a few people who truely believe that we are all equal. Equality is based on equal opportunity. What one does with said opportunity is what makes the difference. Race has no dog in this fight...

Definitely agree with this. All people are not equal in capabilities and intelligence level but race doesn't determine that, what you do with what you are given is most important. Doing the minimum because that is all that is expected of your race is part of what is wrong with our country. We all have to strive to be our best and race has nothing to do with it.

I believe what is fair for one is fair for the other. If a student cannot pass, regardless as to the reason why, they should not be allowed to pass. We should not grade on a curve for any reason and expecially based upon race.

No Child Left Behind is what has dumbed down America. The teachers want to do well and make sure our children are successful. Unfortunately the administrations are requiring teachers to pass students who shouldn't. And if the teacher decides to do what needs to be done and fails a student the teacher can be punished. A failure of a student is often viewed as though the teacher failed when it was the teacher who is trying the hardest to make sure the children are properly educated.

The best thing for the education system is to remove the control the Department of Education has over our schools. All too often the school districts are more worried about the test scores for federal funding. I know my son would have "TECAP Week" every year. That is where the teachers would spend a week going through the test to make sure the students knew the answers when it came time for them to take the state test with state observers. That way the school didn't look bad and would not loose funding.

How is it possible to get a fair and unbiased review of how your kid is doing in school when the teachers are being forced to give them the answers?

Again, it is not the teachers fault because the majority of them want what is best for the children. It is the administrators.

Exactly, teachers are not allowed to "teach" anymore. They simply present a pre approved lesson that has been handed to them by the administration. AND, teachers wages are now based on student performance. Totally not fair if they aren't allowed to teach.

This topic gets my dander up so give me a minute to run to the basement and collect my soap box podium...

The Federal government has no business in our collective hive schools, much less dictating what is to be taught, how to teach it, standardize it and fund it. In far too many cases, our schools have become nothing more than day care centers, distractions and obstacles to children who want to learn and are held back.

If you know your history, you're aware children were much better educated in the three "R's" prior to the Fed's involvement. Does our "Bill of Rights" include a right to an education, or a free Bachelor's degree paid for by tax payers for convicted prison felons? How's this mess all working out? Too much class room time is wasted on health education (sex education), gay life style and diseases, etc., that's the parents responsibility.

If you're a parent, take a look at your child's books and study material selected and approved for them by a national education agency. They're being indoctrinated and brain washed into liberalism, not free thinking. Our Colleges and Universities are even worse and they're paying big bucks to get brain dead?

First and foremost, it's the parents responsibility to teach their children "everything". Right from wrong, good from evil, math, reading, history, the birds and bee's, ethics, political science, health, physical fitness, etc. It's no one else's responsibility, period.

Many parents don't have the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide a quality education in all aspects of learning for their children, so... The COMMUNITY gets together and determines how to best share knowledge / resources and transfer it to their children in the form of doing it themselves, as in hiring a qualified dedicated teacher(s). And supporting those services provided from the community in which they live.

Given the choice, how many communities would support and fund alternative schools for disruptive children with learning and/or behavior issues?

I owe my children a roof over their head, cloths on their backs, food everyday, and a honest and accurate education on what I can afford, no one else's children.

That's... pretty dumb, gotta admit. I disagree with it as a whole, any student in a school should have to meet the same requirement. Doesn't matter if they're Asian, black, ADD, or what. If they can't do it, too bad. I feel the same way about getting jobs. No special considerations for anybody.

I guess I was pretty lucky that most of my gradeschool schooling was done at home, I only had to deal with this nonsense for four years. Ugh.
