The woman lied.

She said the Police Department refused to take her complaint; that is an outright lie. Investigators took a complaint and interviewed both her and her daughter. The Chief of Police stopped by her house, apologized to her and told her the charges were dropped and he opened an investigation into the incident.

What more could anyone possibly ask for?

Will they fire the cop? Of course they won’t; it doesn’t rise nearly to that level. But he may you more discretion next time.

Well the PD should have responded to the reporters. The article said they wouldn't respond so we only have her side in this story. No matter what, an office issuing a citation for a potty training 3 year old is ridiculous. I've had to let my son relieve himself in public before. When a potty training kid has to go, he has to go or mess himself. I would be a very ugly person about the situation if I was being held criminally liable because my son had to piss, whether or not I got a belated apology, to include contacting the press to make this officer look like the douche nozzle he is.

I just did a Google news search when I saw that the woman said the PD refused to take her complaint. I figured that was BS. You don’t refuse to take a citizens complaint; you might mark it “unfounded”, but you don’t refuse to take one.

I’m not sticking up for the cop; it was a stupid thing to do. But it was a violation or it wasn’t. If it was a violation there is nothing to investigate; if it wasn’t then I would guess there will be some disciplinary action with some training.

Police chief did throw out the ticket, and did apologize to her, according to this:

Unfortunately, we must search out the truth ourselves because the news does not follow up on the stories they post. I have little patience for that.

Thanks for the update.
