As far as Texas secession, I'm not so sure that they need a petition. I'll have to look into it further, but wasn't a right of secession a part of their treaty with the US when they joined the union? Not sure, but I'm curious.

Winning a war does not determine rights vs. non-rights. If you beat me up and take my lunch money, did you determine that I had no right to that money?

May be. It came up a time or two when I lived there.

Nothing concrete will come of these petitions. However it might be a great way for the white house to see just how many people are not happy with them.
I think the count is up to 26 states that are doing some version of the same petition. Now just what kind of statement would it be if they all got the 25000 signatures . That is, by the way, the threshold for the white house to respond to the petition. Nothing else.
My point is simply that it would send a message if 26x25000 (650000) people showed their dissatisfaction.

That right was stripped from them as the price for them to be readmitted to the union after the war. It is no longer in effect.

They don't care. They just had a national count of folks that aren't happy with them.

The population of Texas is over 25 million. They have less than 10,000 signatures. They have a ways to go.

My post misinformed? I know it takes 25,000 to get somebody to read it. Those 25,000 DON'T decide for 25 million people. How is that misinformed?

I never said that those votes do decide for the rest of the population. You simply posted wrong info. Thats all. :2cents:

If we did we could find ourselves in much worse state of affairs than we are now. If we seceded I can guarantee there would be no interstate commerce coming in or going out because we are no longer a state. Also, those states who don't secede will likely be pressured into boycotting anything related to Tennessee. Yes we can keep our taxes collected but the money does no good if we can't buy anything with it. The federal government would blockade the state and everything we would get would come in as part of the blackmarket, increasing costs to way more than what we pay now.

We better be careful what we ask for because we might get it. As glamorous as it sounds to secede from the union hundreds of thousands, if not millions, would be far worse off. We would starve and turn into a third world country in a matter of days.

There was nothing great about Mr. Lincoln other than he presided over the greatest killing of Americans in history. Oh, and he ushered in the foundations of what has us in the unfortunate place we now find ourselves.
There was nothing honorable in the practice of slavery nor was there anything honorable in brothers taking up arms against their brothers.

The Civil War was not Lincoln's fault; it was just his problem to deal with...we have a Constitution and a rule of law so that we don't have to have civil wars to solve our problems; I hope we don't forget that again.

I find it funny how many of these petition signatures are from out of state for the states' involved.

And I find it more sore loser B.S. You lost. Get over it. Find better candidates for next time, so you do not lose again.

Sorta reminds me of all the celebrities and other assorted fools who were going to leave the country if Bush won the 2000 election. Didn't happen. I actually think we'd be better off without the likes of Rosie Odonnell, Roseanne Barr, Alec Baldwin, et al.

ave stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a our separation agreement:

--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.

--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and the coal mines, and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.

--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.

--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.

--We'll keep Bill O?Reilly, and Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.

--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

--We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right..
--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."

--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".

--We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you might think about which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall

Law Student and an American

P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you.

P.S.S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country.

THis is ridiculous sure, but I am all for it. I am 100% for a division of this country. It needs to be split between the left and the right and see who's still alive and well in a few more years.

Saw a little bit ago, Texas 35,000 +, Louisianna 20,000+. Intriging for sure. Read somewhere that administration has to answer any petition that gains 25,000 signatures in 30 days. Also petitions from 24 states showing. Could get interesting possibly at some point in time.

Regardless of the wording, regardless of the originator, it meets the requirements of the government's website. If it gets the required number of votes in the specified time, it will provoke a response from the government. Even if the government ignores it, which I expect it will, it's a response.

It will hopefully become a "link in a chain of evidence" that the federal government intends to enslave us. Edited by enfield

How many lists are we putting ourselves on by sigining? Do we become patriots or traitors? Are we now enemies of the state by virtue of signing the petition?
I feel inmy soul that the crossing of the Rubicon noment is not far away.

Will we stand?

Yes they will. It's their media. Won't make a headline in Bugtussle TN.

I'm already on government lists and they know where I am. Edited by enfield

I think I already saw a headline. It won't make a difference. The only way to do that at this point is to rag at the folks in congress.
