The way the AWB mag capacity limits got phased in, and grandfathered to only ban new construction, either the mag selling companies had massive over-stock already, or they got busy and had a crap-load of new mags manufactured fast before the law took effect. Does anyone know which way it was?

The manufacturers had really ramped up and tried to crank out as many as possible. This is one reason that some manufacturers had a poor reputation. For example, USA mags. I have a USA Mini-14 mag that they made well before the ban and it is good quality. Never jammed. As the ban loomed closer, some makers let QC slip in favor of mass quantity.

Then, of course, the sellers jacked up the prices to levels that most people, like myself, were unwilling to pay. So that massive stock of overpriced, underquality mags sat in warehouses and on shelves.
