I got home late last nite and left my 9mm locked in my glove box amd locked my jeep. i got up this morning and someone had gotten into my jeep and stole the gun and clip which was fully loaded. Turn out jeep grand cherokees have an issue with there back hatch where you can yank it and it can open without setting the alarm off. i filed a police report but im wondering what the reprocussions will be on me. Is my carry permit safe. can i be jailed if its used in a crime. please let me know.

No, you can’t be jailed. You have nothing to worry about. I’m a former cop and I keep a gun locked in my car. I am not going to be held responsible for the actions of a criminal that breaks into my car. I’d rather have my gun stolen from my car than my laptop; my gun is cheaper and a heck of a lot easier to replace.
As long as you have the proper serial number there is a chance you will get it back. Good Luck.

I hope the thief screws up and gets caught with it, or better yet he catches leprosy on the way back home

I never leave my firearm in my truck it's always with me, and my other guns stay in the safe,

Sorry to hear. That really stinks and I hope they catch the low life and you get your wepon back.

What year is your Jeep Grand Cherokee? I have one and if there is an issue, I'd like to know.

Hate to hear about it, hope it ends up in a pawn shop and gets routed back to you.

Probably the only danger you would be in is if the idiot shoots himself and files a civil law suit that you didn't have a trigger lock on it. :surrender: /jking

Seriously we have a screwed up legal system.

You have nothing to worry about as far as legal repercussions. I will say though that a weapon that is not properly secured is one that can be used against you. I try to keep all of mine locked up except the one I'm wearing or is sleeping adjacent to me. If I leave mine in my car for some weird reason it is hidden deep in the seats.
