Range report Colt New Agent

Last week I asked if it was insane to sell two guns to buy one. Well the answer is no as long as the new gun is a Colt New Agent .45acp. I have been wanting one for the last year or so and finally broke down last weekend at the gun show. I must say these are great looking 1911's and are very light. I know a lot of folks have issues with feeding and picky ammo with a lot of the 3" 1911's out there but the New Agent is not one of them, It functioned flawlessly with the cheapest ammo I could find. It ate all 50 rounds of Blazer Aluminum and never once belched or hicupped. Each time the trigger was pulled, the gun went bang. I also fed a few mags of Winchester JHP just to see how it would react and it never skipped a beat. Accuracy took a little time to master due to the trench sight down the top of the slide, About 20 rounds into the fun I found the sweet spot and spent the rest of the time punching out the center of the target. When I got bored always hitting center, I decided to see if I could take out the little numbers going up the center line until I fired my last few rounds. All I can say is WOW! Colt hit the nail on the head with this little number. Light, accurate and shoots .45s all in a compact frame. Got to say I almost went with a Kimber Pro Carry II but I do not regret getting the New Agent instead. Great gun!

First time shooting the Colt at about 10 yards out feeding it the cheap stuff.

This one is not going any where. I plan to wear the finish off carrying it before it gets passed on when I am too old and feable to carry it safely. lol

You got rid of an "O" Model???? For shame. :stunned: :squint:

Yea I really didn't want to get rid of it, I absolutely loved that little Colt, but the fellow just kept adding and adding and adding to his trade offer until I would have been stupid to have said "thanks, but no thanks".

I do still have it's matching big brother though, a Colt Combat Commander, but it doesn't look quite the same in the case all by itself now, I had really hoped to haved eventiually passed them down as a paired set to my oldest son but like I said, I just couldn't pass up that guy's overly generous offer.

I can't think of a better heirloom to pass down, that is for sure!

I understand. Wouldn't mind the Combat Commander, but got too many other wants to take care of first. All joking aside, I like the O model, but it's not the best 1911 I've ever had. I'd really be hard pressed to pick only one. But I am partial to sigs these days.

I also really dig Sig's, I have a P226R DAK that is a phenominal shooting gun, the trigger group on it is the smoothest, most consistant trigger I've ever felt on a semi-auto, H&K's LEM trigger groups come close but the DAK edges them out in my opinion.

The Combat Commanders suffer from the same problem as the Officer ACP's do, with both models being solid stainless steel they are both a bit heavy to lug around all day, but that extra weight does make them both very sweet shooters, much less felt recoil than the alloy-framed light weight Commanders or these Colt New Agent's.

But the older I get the lighter and smaller I want my carry guns to be, these Colt New Agent's might be just the ticket, I am going to have to go fondle one at the local fun store now!

Ditto to all comments. Except that older crack..ridicilous coming from someone your age. I was there once, long ago.
