Hero Gear is ramping up to build AR platforms... And may offer a class on assembling your AR from parts. Of the dozen's of AR's I've owned over the years, I've never had one break, so I've never had one apart beyond field stripping. Sign me up for a receiver and the class!

According to Joe, they are milling around the idea of Pictographs a'la HK, custom ser#, etc. I think it would be real fun to build an M4 heavy barrel... but can I get it in John Deere Green/yellow? I bet so....

You don't need a formal class to teach you how to build an AR15. It's much easyer than I had always thought. Built my CAR using the step by step video found in the AR15.com forum. Usually whenever you buy a kit the upper is already assembled and ready to go, so all that's really left to do is assemble the lower. just follow along with the little video mentioned above and presto... AR15!

To get started just buy yourself a stripped lower receiver (aroung $100 depending on what you get). At that point you'll be comitted and it won't take you long to save your pennies for the kit. Kits can be had for around $400.

WARNING: This activity can become addicting, I just bought a second lower.

(maybe I'll build the 24" varmin rifle next)

I have a question about AR-type rifles.

When buying an AR-type rifle from an individual, do you have to get it registered?

TN does not have a firearm registry.

I know that, but I just wanted to make sure there were no funny rules when it comes to AR's. Thanks a bunch.

Nope, as long as it isn't a short barreled AR (less than 16") or an automatic AR, you treat it just like any other rifle.
