Cleaning suppressors

Finally got to shoot mine , only 25 rounds of 5.56 and 50 .22 LR , it was actually pretty dirty. Had to smoke a turkey that day so it was a quick shoot and get started smoking. I did notice the last 5 5.56's left in the mag were pretty dirty , does using a suppressor cause that ? Edited January 6, 2015 by Fourtyfive

Yeah, there is a lot more crud being blown back into the receiver when shooting suppressed and that crud can settle anywhere like inside the magazine.

 

If you think it will be a problem then install an adjustable gas block. They even make 3 way blocks. Once the gas is set you will notice the gun runs a lot cleaner, there is less felt recoil and the empties don't get slung into another county.

Huntertown Arms Kestrel 5.56 , yes the rounds in the top of the mag were getting black in color. It didn't sound so quiet to me unless I was shooting the sub .22LR. The bolt was really not that dirty , it cleaned up well but it is NB coated.

Yeah, shooting 5.56 is never going to be quiet because the high pressures and the supersonic crack of the bullet.

Wishing I had gotten a .308 or 7.62 now to have gotten a little more use out of it …..

Kroil or hoppes also works if you let it soak.

When you are done cleaning, apply some anti-sieze as you would on a car application. You will be glad you did. Makes it much easier to clean next time.

To just the threads or all touching parts ?

Just the threads. The rest will dry out, get burned off or caked with crud.

The dip works very well. I use it for all my stainless cans.

What do you do with the waste dip?

I've got 2 cans, but I'm definately not an expert (not with those cans anyway  :dirty:  ).

I've learned from this thread that I'm cleaning mine way too often.

I had a time getting the last of 4 baffles out from the front end and only shot it 70 times.
