are we still feeding this troll?

Apparently. The guys come and gone and out of the three posts he's made in the thread two were identical. Clearly he's not interested in discussing the issue but probably having a great time watching the heads explode.
Trolls live off attention.

My pastor always poses the "rich" issue this way - If you had $1,000,000, would you consider yourself to be rich? What if you had $10,000,000? Would you be rich? If you had $10,000,000 and Jack had $175,000,000, would you consider yourself to be rich? Most people would not, they make that assessment relative to what others have. This gets into an envy mentality and that is why it is so easy to demonize "the rich", because many people consider anyone who has more than they do to be "rich". I am happy with myself and what I have, I am not jealous of other people. They worked for what they have, I worked for what I have. Many people would consider me to be "rich", while many people would not. It's all relative, mostly based on perception.
Yeah my means are very limited but have been mistaken (sorely mistaken) as "rich" on rare occasion.

Envy of others' possessions is one angle, wanting what someone else has. Spread the wealth. In many cases wrong-headed but it is hard to say anything is always wrong-headed. Perhaps there are cases that it wouldn't be wrong-headed.

There are folks do not envy another fella's possessions, but resent the power which accompanies wealth. They don't envy or covet the power, but don't like it being used to push around the common man. Surely there are some who don't mind the power which accompanies wealth but only envy and covet the power for themselves rather than some other fella. But I don't covet power. I just don't want it used against me. As long as a rich guy doesn't wield his power against me then I don't care about his wealth or "potential power".

Bloomberg and Soros ferinstance. They use the wealth and accompanying power to screw with us. Lots of rich folk in local and state politics who screw with us, wrong-headed decisions to suit their own perverted conception of how things should be. Them folks wouldn't have the power to screw with us if they weren't rich. This is a form of oligarchy or oligopoly.

I'm not suggesting any solutions. Merely pointing out what I see as a valid problem which has always been with us.

The limits of private property rights could be probed with extreme hypotheticals. For instance, if Bill Gates had enough money to buy half of Nashville, would his property rights enable him to evict everybody from his half and tear it down to the ground? If he had enough money to buy half of washington state, would his property rights be fine to clear-cut his half? Edited by Lester Weevils

I agree with all that you have said.

Let me interject this -

(While I am not saying this is a blanket statement, it may sound like it, but I have experienced a LOT of it over the past 30 years...)

I have managed several fast food chains over the past 30 years. I was the only white person working there (as the GM). My employees were always saying crazy stuff like, "You white. You rich." I would try to have conversations with them and explain that no, I'm not 'rich', and I'm certainly not 'rich' because I'm white. I work hard and will work 2 or 3 jobs if I have to. The employees meanwhile, would never show up for work when scheduled the day after they got paid. They were out getting drunk, spending their money on court fees or hookers. I had to bail a few of them out on several occasions, give updates to their parole officers, give them rides home after work, etc. One time, I'm pretty sure I naively drove one of them to a drug deal when giving them a ride home from work. They have their own underground lottery. They have their own secret language. They have no aspiration to get ahead, just to barely make enough to buys cigs, booze, video games or whatever.

One day I had two employees go at each other out in the dining room and try to kill each other. I had to call the police. Then one night another employee was showing me all of the oversized rings on his fingers. He was explaining that one (a big dollar symbol) stood for "money", and another (which I forget what it was) stood for "power". Wha?????

0bama has blown the race card, I'm not playing that game anymore, just telling the truth like it is. What I have said above is just a drop in the bucket. Edited by mcurrier

Are you really going to blame Obama because you have given up on the state of Americas race relations?

Secondly, i'm glad that you had that disclaimer, because your post sure read like a blanket statement.

It occurred to me that someone had to tell those young people that foolishness about white people. If you go around sharing your none blanket statement views with impressionable minds we will continue on a merry go round of negative stereotypes based upon someone else's bitter feelings. My point was, I case I forgot to mention it, was that these people have been conditioned for decades to act as victims. It is an uphill battle trying to educate people when the media and Dems continue to keep lying to them and telling them that they are victims.

I'm not playing the race game any longer, I do not feel guilty, I will not be manipulated into being silenced by someone calling me a "racist". I will call it like it is. I will not walk on eggshells. If people want to have a discussion about "race relations - lets have it! But it's NOT going to be one-sided any longer.

Forgot to mention that -

0bama promised to be a post-racial President, but instead has been the MOST racial president. Everything with this guy and his administration and even with the Dems, not to mention the media, is about RACE.

Anyone disagree? If so, what cave have you been living in?

No one called you a racist, and if you are that's your issue. My point is that if your employees believe that you are rich simply because you are white then someone ignorant has shared that bit of info with them so many times that they now believe it. Also, if you have no problem with generalizing a race of people, that's also your issue.

I suspect that you are just angry and venting. I hope that the future doesn't kill you.

I disagree. However, I do hear a lot of people say " I can't say this or that, because someone will call me a racist". I don't think that Obama or his administration are racist. Maybe the media or your peers make you feel that way?

Bush increased the national debt from $3.339 trillion from 2001 to $6.369 trillion in 2008.

Obama increased the national debt from $6.369 trillion in 2008 to $11.12 trillion in July of this year.

I heard a snippet of Obama's victory speech last night replayed on the radio this morning and he talks of "tackling the national debt". I don't see how he plans to do that when he doesn't have a budget and has doubled it in 4 years.

And 34% of the money he is spending he has borrowed from other countries (China)....
Neither of those. I think we are having two different conversations here. Not racist. Didn'tsay that you accused me of being racist. Not accusing anyone else of being racist, but am saying that some people have been intentionally misled for political gain for years, and also that our current potus is a very devisive person, not the peacemaker that he or others make him out to be. I suppose I don't write clearly enough to convey my point...so consider it dropped.

Well, for not being racist, he plays racial politics very well. For someone who isn't a socialist, he has a lot of rather odd friends and associations. For someone who just has bad policies, he has a remarkable track record of policies and decisions that aren't just bad, but are the worst possible choice, in a wide variety of fields; foreign policy, economy, military, and constitutional law.

You may be hearing something different - people hear what they want to hear, see what they expect to see - but I have no doubt the people saying something else are sincere. Edited by Mark@Sea

Roy Exum's column in the Chattanoogan this morning.

James Anderson, a gentleman of the South from Talladega, Ala., has written a list of “The 12 Reasons I Voted Democratic” and, after it appeared in the Scottsboro (Ala.) Daily Sentinel last Saturday, it was sent to me by a dear friend who has the same leanings. It is with devilish delight I pass it along for your perusal.

Mr. Anderson could not be contacted for additional comments yesterday but I believe his comments alone will sufficiently entertain you as we await the kickoff of today’s college football games:

* * *

Dear Editor:

Here are the 12 reasons I voted Democratic:

1. I voted Democratic because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I now may marry my Labrador.

2. I voted Democratic because I believe oil companies’ profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the Government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn’t.

3. I voted Democratic because I believe the Government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

4. I voted Democratic because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as I agree with what is said and nobody else is offended by it.

5. I voted Democratic because I’m way too irresponsible to own a gun and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

6. I voted Democratic because I believe that people who can’t tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in 10 years if I don’t start driving a Prius.

7. I voted Democratic because I’m not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

8. I voted Democratic because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the Social Security from those who paid into it.

9. I voted Democratic because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.

10. I voted Democratic because I believe liberal Judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

11. I voted Democratic because I think that it’s better to pay billions for their oil to people who hate us but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, spotted owl, gopher or fish.

12. I voted Democratic because my head is so firmly misplaced toward the south end of my body; it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have another point of view.

No trees, Spotted Owls, or Red Cock-headed Woodpeckers were harmed in the sending of this message.

—James W. Anderson

Talladega, AL

If the policies that FDR implemented had been undone by him once the economy recovered, we might not have as bad of a mess. Instead he died on us.

All of this anti obama rhetoric will subside when we see that he's been doing a fantastic job a the economy continues to recover and unemployment continues to drop
To put it simply, you are misinformed.

According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), a government organization, the average unemployment rate in 2008 was 5.8%, in 2011, it was 8.9%. http://www.bls.gov/cps/cpsa2011.pdf

Heck, the most recent data released, October 2012, unemployment was at 7.9%. So while I understand that you (and 51.4%) of the population don't know the first thing about economics or finance: PLEASE, I beg you, tell me that you understand that 7.9% is more than 5.8%?
