I spent the last year wearing Peltor cheapies. They made my ears sweat and I yelled when I talked, I upgraded to some Howard Leight electronics. They are more low profile, I don't seem to sweat as much, and provide ample protection. They are a little weird because they will amplify low tone sounds, like people talking across the room. The ones I have you can plug in an ipod into them and listen to music while you are wearing them.

Negative: If you leave the switch on, your batteries will die! They do not have an automatic turn off switch to conserve batteries. 2 AAA batteries.

I like the Peltor standard muffs. I had the electronic ones and did not like them.I would be ready to shoot and hear a car coming up the range road or somebody talking behind me.They were heavy and bulky also.

I use electronic ears.I love being able to talk to someone with out having to remove them. The only draw back is if there on while your shooting indoors, the loud sound of the gun shot will be removed, but the echo will not be removed, and can get a little loud at times

Indoors I use 30db soft earplugs with David Clark over ear protectors rated at 30db. Outdoors, I am a little less protected. I just use the softs.

I ended up buying the Sordin brand after "hearing" about failures of the Peltor brand by folks wearing them while taking weekend gun courses. These were mentioned on one of the forums and after reading praises from soldiers that used them in Iraq, I decided that they were worth the cost.

The set that I have cost $365, but I figure they're worth it. My only compliant was that they fit a bit too snungly over my big head and pinched my ears. I just tried streching them a bit and it seemed to work. I'll sweat in them, but then I sweat in $10 nonelectronic ones also.

Indoors I use foam plugs and muffs, outdoors I use foam plugs. Good foam plugs will conform to the ear canal and give very good protection if inserted properly.

I use Pro Ears electronic muffs. Now electronic muffs are considerably cheaper than when I bought these a few years ago.
