Kel Tec SU16CA

I'm not in Cali but I like this model better than the rest. I like the front sight and the ability to store 2 10 rounders or 1 30 rounder in the stock. The problem being I can't find one available any where.

Any of you handled/shot any the SU models?

They are nice guns. I have the plr (its the SU action in a pistol barrel and stock) and have shot the rifle SU as well. Reliable and accurate. While a good gun for the money you want to avoid shooting steel ammo in them (manual says this as well) and you want to be careful of blasting 100+ rounds through it in 5 min sort of thing (you can overheat them). If you treat it reasonably well (do not overheat and use brass ammo) it will serve you well as an inexpensive AR alternative. They are rather lightweight.

Their 10 round mags do not fit into ARs. But AR mags fit the rifle, there is some small difference in their factory mags.

Up to ~6,000 rounds anyway. ;)

If one is original owner with purchase papers, KT will likely replace a worn out bbl under warranty. Otherwise, the cost of replacement is still reasonable. I only know one or two persons that actually wore one out, and it was far more than 6k to do it.

I have a SU-16 and a PLR-16 amongst my numerous KT's, and love them.

I thought that only counted on their smaller pistols like my p-32?
Either way even if your bit the original owner I think they charge like a $40 bench fee for warranty work and apparently have no qualm swapping worn/broken parts or even replacing whole weapons if need be.

I have a Stag AR I just like this gun because it folds up and I can have it in places I would never be able to take an AR. I doubt I would be getting any where near 6k rounds any time in the near future. So they seem to be hard to find if you guys run across a CA model would ya care to send me a message about where it is?

KT says "all KelTec firearms", just for the record.

I'd opine that 6K out of their mouse guns is a bit on the optimistic side. Although you'd have to be a real masochist to test that. :)

What do they make the barrels with, that they poop at 6K? Or is that normal?

KT doesn't say the barrel wears out per se.

"What is the expected life of a Kel-Tec firearm
All Kel-Tec firearms have an expected life of 6,000 rounds or more."

Maybe they tend to just disintegrate or something. :)

You could probably have one ordered at your LGS I would imagine. They might look at you funny but you've got your reasons.

Ya I've called them they put me on the list. They called to see about getting me one and they are on back order but I would much rather purchase it from an individual so it's not registered to me.

When you buy a gun it's registered in your name connected to the serial number right? I've only ever bought 1 new gun so I don't really recall.

Though the federal 4473 approval info is supposed to be destroyed daily, it is indeed recorded and kept on the 4473 form at the local FFL where it was purchased or transferred. Some people call this "registration", most don't. There is no gun registration as far as some state wide database as in some states.

Hmm so for example if the assault weapons ban goes into place and we have the "Evil Rifles" would we be grand fathered in or would they get with the FFLs and get everyones contact info to ask them to do whatever with any uncompliant guns?
