Holster for Taurus PT709 Slim

Recommended Posts

My wife has her carry permit and is anxious to carry her handgun on her person (not in her purse) while out in town as well as at home. This is complicated, however, by her current state of pregnancy. I'm not crazy about shoulder holsters but I thought that would probably be the best option. Holsters for that particular model are somewhat hard to find. Anyone have any experience/suggestions?

I doubt she'll find anything particularly comfortable especially as she gets closer to due date. Frankly, purse carry is a good option and better than a shoulder rig. I would tell her to pocket carry in an overcoat since times are getting chilly. Some times you just have to make due until she delivers. Once she delivers a good leather OWB will be best IMO. Especially for women, leather molds best to a womans hip.

She could carry that gun IWB easily since it is very slim. These little "pocket pistols" are very popular so you should be able to find a holster for it. I have never been pregnant so I don't know the logistic of it all haha but I would think she could still carry strong side hip IWB. If not then I would say purse or pocket.

Having never been pregnant, it's difficult to make a recommendation. Congrats, btw! :)

I agree with the above that pocket or off-body carry is probably best. I'm not a fan of shoulder holsters. Belt carry won't really work as most maternity pants don't have belt loops... maybe she hasn't gotten that far yet, but she will be sooner than you think. A belly band might work early on, but as she gets bigger concealment will be near impossible.

Haha she's pretty "plump" we'll say. The only reason for mention of a shoulder holster was to carry it around the house. She usually carries in her purse when we go out. IWB won't work because her maternity pants have an elastic waist that comes up to her armpits almost. not kidding. so any type held up by a belt or waist of pants is totally out of the question.

She could just tape a holster to the top of her belly. :pleased:

I hate to tell ya buddy, coming from a father, I have seen them get big. They do not want the added weight on the body anyway. Even though the PT709 slim (I own one) is light, by the time you add the holster/rig assembly, they would hate it and consider it an inconvenient burden. I highly suggest readdressing the purse carry, or maybe an ankle carry as it will work out her legs for when the little one is hanging off of it. Congrats BTW! :woohoo: Also, I wear loose fitting jeans every day, and have an ankle holster for this one. It fits fine in the leg. It prints some, but who cares, most people would be directing their attention to her belly area, or in your case probably her enlarged mammary glands! :pleased:

my wife carried hers in one of the small frame generic black nylon jobs, the ones that have a velcro adjustable snapping stap across the back and an extra mag pouch with a velcro strap over them, you know the $20 ones that come in every size.
