 long story short, have both a ps 90 and a 5.7 pistol bought both in the last few months. decided to stock up on ammo, like i always do especially for a new caliber. so bought 25 boxes of ss195 ammo which is 1250 rounds and also bought 30 boxes of ss 197 ammo! now in the last 6 weeks all i read and hear on other sites is that the ss195 ammo only has a shelf live of 10 years max. due to the fact that is has a lead-free primer! i have left e-mails with FN to no avail and the more i read the worse it gets. now it seems that the shelf life alledgedly may only be 1-5 yrs. i just dont know what to do, sell most of it or have a shooting marathon or attempt to seal it in zip-lock bags or use a food-sealer? i have heard of so many different remedies ranging from the weird to the absurd, but there has to be something to this due to the fact of the lead-free primers in the ss 195 ammo breaking down due to oxidation ! :death: Edited by slim

Call these guys is my advice. As far as I know, they are reloading 5.7...the only shop doing it in the country. Possibly there's another by now, I don't know:

I would guess they know all about the components as a matter of course.

Slim,

Dont freak out...calm down...take a breath. Put it all in a secured airtight storage with some dessicant and it will be ok. you really dont think your going to shoot 1200rds in 10yrs? Im sure you will...thats only 120rds a year. Besides the world ends in 2012 anyways so when the SHTF your ammo will still be good to go. However if you are gonna freak out and wholesale it shoot me a price ;-D (I already have 1500 rds of SS195 and could always use more).

1250rd is about enough for 2-6 months... it should keep fine for that long. Reload it using standard primers.

Just what I was thinking. The P90 brass is easy to find, but the Five-seveN throws them into the next county.

But that is not a lot of rounds. Just start reloading. I'm assuming someone make that weird powder for reloading.

I'm leaning towards the 2 month mark...

heck, my wife went through 600 rounds of .22 on the range the other day!!!

here's hoping that you guys shoot just as much!!
