WAFF-TV of Hunstville, AL reports:
Crews from Huntsville, as well as Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler out of Trinity headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees....

In the words of someone that just called into a talk radio show "I'm done with the whole lot of them, they don't want the help we're sending and want to have a marathon using up resources while people have no food or water next door."

I agree they should let them follow through with their decisions and pull out all the external assistance until they unf*** themselves. Edited by Sam1

Perhaps not as stupid as Mayor Bloomingidiot putting in water and food stations and generators (not to mention closing roads and all the police necessary) for the f**king stupid NY Marathon who will be running through the streets of Manhattan where people don't even have food, or water or electricity or any way to get those things.

Part of me feels sorry for these people but then I get pissed off and say they are getting what they deserve for voting in idiots like Bloomburg...I guess I'm conflicted about it.

on the other hand, what if, (unlikely, but what if) these antics cause enough ppl to get POED enough to vote romney... and he gets NY & NJ due to this lol. Wishful thinking? Probably. Possible? Who knows ... the poll idiots are not polling NY heavy and can't even reach a lot of the population ..... ?!

I am not sure the marathon is that big a deal. Sometimes the best thing to do is to go on as planned as a way to get things back to normal. The money for it was already spent, the folks already on their way to it and prepped and trained.

The mess, on the other hand, is just that: a big mess. Marathon or no marathon, clearing away the mess is going to take months, maybe over a year or even more. Just getting the power on is going to take a week or 2. Just getting the gas trucks in and the gas stations operational is going to take days, weeks.

Cancel the marathon or run it, either way, it is a symbolic gesture is what I am saying. Cancel it and give the snacks/water to the victims, and a hundred or so people out of 5 million get some one day worth of snacks. A nice gesture, but not really impressive --- I am sure the beer wagons are on the way with millions of beercans full of water (they do this, they can turn off the beer and just put water in cans rapidly for disasters) which is going to do a lot more than the few hundred bottles of water they had for the event. Run the marathon, try to show that life goes on, also a nice gesture. There will be critics either way --- if he had canceled it some sap would be on TV telling you how he trained all year and spent $1200 on a plane ticket, boo hoo etc; that is just how the media and america work these days.

Turning away the nonunion help is a big deal and very stupid. I can assure you that the help that was turned away would have been many, many multiples of the amount that could be taken from the marathon supply...

Beck said a bit ago, it looks like the Red Cross has only raised $11 million total for this, and Mercury 1 has raised over $1million just today. I think that statement where the Red Cross came out and said you should only send them cash has really screwed them over. How are you going to be an entity that exists solely from the donations of the people, then tell them that you don't want anything except their money?

Also seen that the insurance companies are trying to hurry up and get FEMA in there to hand out money so they can reduce the amount of the claim against their policy. Cause that's what we need at the moment; just like when Katrina hit, we need to give everyone there a $5000 credit card while they have no electricity so they can run out and get boob jobs and new TV's.

I spent 35 + years in the construction industry. The unions own the northeast; from the county, state, and municipal side to the construction trades. I say let 'em sit in the dark; since they like the union so much. As others have posted; some of the smarter ones of 'em will do a bit of thinkin about this. The real smart ones will move out of that dammed cesspool. The ones that like it up there can stay up there. I say, let 'em sit in the dark if they want too.

Would you expect anything different from New Jersey, the land where it is illegal to pump your own gas?
The only other state that it's illegal to pump is Oregon.

Back to the thread...I agree with everyone, you spit on someone that's trying to help you and you can rot.

Except that if you ask the Alabama utility companies, apparently this story is bogus.

Alabama power companies are denying a local TV station's report that linemen who had traveled to New Jersey from Alabama (a right to work state) to help restore power to those hit hard by Superstorm Sandy were told they could not work there because they were non-union.

The power company didn't turn them away, but the IBEW union denied them the opportunity to work:

He must have realized his popularity went way down, today.

Franklin Graham's ministry had twenty or more trucks loaded with generators, chainsaws, and hand tools
and no telling what else waiting to help before the storm hit. I'm sure that group is non-union.

If the states affected allow the unions to turn away needed help because of their own self interest, they
will pay dearly, and deserve it. Those people affected by the storm may end up becoming Republicans,
but I doubt it. I know one thing. There wil be a lot of people reminded about this huge disaster by the
unions, for years to come.

Screw the unions! I would love to see this lesson learned all over the country, but people shouldn't be
made to suffer in the process.
