FEMA Making Preparations To Postpone Presidential Elections?

FEMA doesn't have any authority to change election dates. It's set by Congress, according to the Constitution.

States and local elections have similar regs regarding their elections. But it has been bounced around.

FEMA has no say in the matter. Neither does the president.

I believe you're right...just thought I'd bounce it off you guys.

However, the report theorizes that presidential emergency power could be used to delay an election — specifically, if “attacks, disruptions and destruction are so severe and so dangerous in certain localities, particularly in crowded urban areas, that the President under a rule of necessity may look to protect the public safety by federalizing State national guard and restricting movement and activities in such areas which would obviously affect the ability to conduct an election at those sites.â€

I don't know that people need to worry about postponing the election. Congress is the group with that authority, and I don't see them coming back to Washington between now and Election Day to get that done.

If you want to worry about something, worry about the allowances made to the states to "remedy" any "emergencies or disputes" between next Tuesday and the Electoral College meeting in December.

There was a woman politician in North Carolina who posited this several years ago. She said something like

"there was no need to have elections, next time", and "why do we have to have them?" It was like Eric Holder

when he floated the idea of stricter gun control right after Obama was coronated, and about the same time.

Some women accessorize according to their shoes, some their purse, me I accessorize according to my gun/holster. Who says I have to give up fashion for protection?

From USC:

"The electors of President and Vice President shall be appointed,

in each State, on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in

November, in every fourth year succeeding every election of a

President and Vice President."

As I mentioned in another thread, seems about all a state could do would be to leave their precincts open till midnight of that day. But it has also been opined by many that any last minute changes in voting times would foster flurry of lawsuits which would probably cause a stay of some sort and quick trip to SCOTUS. Again. Wouldn't matter unless a swing state that determined the election did it, and then we'd be basically in same shape the next day as in 2000.

Oh Shoot, I saw your comment after I opened this thread. I did search to see if this topic had been discussed but being new to the forum I didn't look in posts only topics. Sorry.

No worries, I think this topic in the other thread was more of an aside. No worries regardless.
