I love whitewater kayaking. I've been doing it since I was a kid. In fact it's one of the reasons I moved from FL to TN, so I could do it more often. This is me at Bald River Falls over by the Tellico River,

I gotta quote Jeff Foxworthy here (speaking of the Olympic games that were held nearby).

"If Ned Batey couldn't make it down that thing, a Frenchman in a pair of bicycle pants don't have a chance!"

Genealogy, been conducting research for nearly 40 years. Last 10 or 12 years it has almost turned into a job, helping people, especially since I travel a lot (Pleasure, business stopped 5 years ago).

Fishing, have always fished, Deep Water, Fresh Water, I would fish in my bathtub if I could. But we have a Bass lake 10 feet behind our rear deck, need to get out more often actually.

Study Civil War History. Grew up in Maryland, not far from Antietam, Gettysburg, etc. Always had an interest, a big one. Family served in 61st Georgia, 7th Georgia Cav., 27th Virginia and 5th Maryland (Union). Just spent a month with my cousin up in Pa traveling back and forth from Pa. down to the south side of the Shenedoah Valley, hitting every Battlefield our 3rd Great Grandfather fought on, 23 in all we hit, plus two of their Camps, and Point Lookout POW Camp, where he and some other family members were prisoners. Actually study all History, but not as intensely, or put as much time into it as CW. Right now I am working on my Post Graduate Certificate in CW History from AMU, in my spare time.

Computers and Tech. This actually DID become my job after retiring from the Army, started out on huge VAX machines in 1981 and have been in it ever since with numerous certifications. Did my first build (486DX2-33) in 1994, and have done 1000 since. Went to work for Comcast as a Techical Operations Manager in 2001, launched some of the first Broadband out there (4 cities), was a Lan/Wan Admin for those same cities, and built headends for entire areas when I was promoted to Area Engineer. Owned a couple of Computer Business, and an additional one that we were subcontractors for Dell Warranty Services. Finished up with Copart as a GM running one of their yards and online auctions in Birmingham, Al. Retired now, so its just a Hobby, I still do a lot of build from low end to super high end gaming machines but only for free, dont make any money off it, they pay for parts and I do the builds. Also run a Gun Forum and a few other things online.

Few more hobbies but those are the primary ones, other than shooting.
