Best moderately priced weapon light??

Recommended Posts

My wife may be buying me a weapon light for Christmas and I am needing some opinions from those who have used them? First of all are they worth it? My Glock 23 is my EDC and double as my night stand gun. My main concern is having some type of light in the event of a home invasion and I would rather have it attached to my weapon. I don't want one too expensive but needs to be durable as well as fit in a holster. I realize I will have to get a new holster as well. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am a light junkie. I have bought a lot of lights over the years.

The Surefire X300 pretty much ended my search. I haven't bought another light since trying this one out. You can find cheaper ones, but you won't find a better one.

Raven Concealment makes holsters to fit most standard weapons with most kinds of lights.

well i just posted up about the new Nebo Protec i purchased. Price wise it is great. Esthetically i really like it. I cannot say anything about the durability of them just yet as I have not really put it through its paces. I do however have another Nebo, the Redline, that is SUPER tough. So if the Protec is anything like that, it will hold up just fine. The place I get my holsters will let me send them my light to use on their blue gun so finding a holster is not an issue for me.

The price is $39.99 and can be found locally at a few gun shops...online everywhere and even at Wal Mart of all places!

The surefire and streamlight are super nice but I wanted to see if a less expensive option was out there that could hold its own. For $40 im not too worried if it does not. It will just become one that I use for "light" duty. Time will tell. Check out my post for the details on it and pics.

My first thought was "Why would you need a holster?" for a "situation" gun. But, then I wouldn't want my cellphone to ring on my nightstand at 3am and me try to answer my Glock. I don't think that would end well.

Think I'll look into a holster for my lighted nightstand gun as well.

I guess my biggest concern is that I will not like the added bulk of the light for EDC. Are these lights wider than the frame of the gun? (Glock 23)

My TLR-1 is a bit wider than my SW99 slide which is pretty comparable to a G23. I know the body of the light is definitely wider than the rail.

I like the Surefire lights better, but the tlr-1 I had survived 2kish rounds through a G34 before about a thousand rounds of 5.56. I then bought a x300 for my rifle, and the TLR-1 was moved to nightstand duty on a G19. I am 100% confident in it in any role that doesn't involve being abused, but I'll keep the SF lights for classes and whatnot based completely on other's repeated T&E.

They are a little wider than the frame. Some guys do carry them IWB but I'll only ever be wearing a light bearing gun OWB because I carry a E2D in my pocket most of the time, but you probably could if you really wanted to. I think forgetting to put a belt on before I leave the house(without a weapon) would be more frustrating to me than the difference with or without a light on my CCW

Come to think of it, I have a couple other SL lights around the house as well and like them as well.

LAPolicegear has them for $99.

That's what I thought. Does anyone EDC with a light? I was looking at the Glock factory lights but they are not LED.

I do. I carry a government sized Kimber Warrior with a Surefire X300 in a Raven Concealment Phantom LC holster. My Glock 19 is similarly outfitted.

Ever carry it IWB? That is my main concern. I have a tuckable holster and sometimes wear it tucked to church. Other than that mostly untucked.

Occasionally. By the time you strap on a full size weapon, the light doesn't really add that much. The surefire is slimmer than most.

I ALSO HAVE A GLOCK 23 THAT I USE ON MY NIGHTSTAND. A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I PURCHASED A STREAMLIGHT TLR-3 FOR IT. IT'S SMALL AND WORKS WELL. MORE RECENTLY I ORDERED A FOBUS TACTICAL SPEED PADDLE HOLSTER THAT IS MADE FOR THE GLOCK 23 WITH A LIGHT. I ORDERED BOTH FROM OPTICSPLANET.COM. THEY HAVE PRETTY REASONABLE PRICES.

Looks nice but I didn't think about the light sticking out further than the barrel. That pretty much just killed the whole idea for me. The light would be stabbing me in the leg and I don't want that.

not fancy but look into the Nebo...or the TLR 3

This subject has been sloshing around in the back of my mind forever. I'm going to take your advice. I don't believe I'll leave it permanently attached to one gun. Just ordered.
