FN makes a sweet pistol....the X is hammer fired and the S is striker fired.

I do not like the X for 2 reasons...

1) I prefer striker

2) the ambi safety rides right on my thumb and easily engaged. Makes for a very awkward grip. I have had a few other guys give me that exact reason as to why they do not like the X either.

I had an X for a while as well. The rear of the safety did protrude a lot and would rub a blister at the base of my stronghand thumb right on the knuckle. It shot really nice, but after I got rid of mine I have read of issues with the mags dropping free while firing as the only thing that holds the mags in is a little plastic tab that gets worn out over time. I just went back to fnforum where many of the issues were reported and found this sticky - apparently most all the known issues have been resolved as long as it is a newer production pistol.

**************

- "Heat issue": It was shown in previous production models that a pistol left in the sun would not fire in double action. Upon cooling it would fire again. This could not be caused by heat from the gun firing, but only from an external heat source.

- Magazine seating issue: It previous production models, in order to get the magazine to seat properly, you had to push the magazine forward after inserting it to get it to seat. This has been resolved.

- Backstrap issue: The orignal tab was made of plastic and had some play in it. The current issue is made of metal, and most don't have much, if any, play in it. (If you need to fix play in your backstrap, it is recommended that you use hot glue. This keeps the backstrap from moving, and doesn't keep it permanently in place as other options can, such as epoxy, which is not recommended)
