Haha. The first time I took mine down it took me forever to figure it out. I have probably cut my time in half now but it's still a pain.

Lol yeah it didn't get any better with the mkiii either. The stupid mag disconnect just adds another unwanted step.

I've thought about getting one of those quick strip kits but haven't taken the plunge.

The good news is they only really need to be stripped every 5-10k rounds IMO.

Its not that bad

That bad, I guess that's relative but to the best of my knowledge it is the only pistol who's manufacture recommends taking a mallet to it to strip. I'd rather detail strip pretty much anything else I own than field strip the Ruger.

Me to. I'm getting faster. Now only takes an eternity. :woohoo:

I am curious; can you use a ultrasonic clean/lube system on the MKII or MKIII and get by without dissembling it ? I have a buddy who basically removes the wood grips on several of his guns (non-MK) and runs them through the ultrasonic. I understand from him that there are certain limitations, for example do not do anything with gold inlay.

I don't think they are that bad, but it does getting painful when trying to do work on them like triggers and such. I decided to tweak the trigger on mine and had it together and apart about 5 or 6 times in one day. Finally, I decided it was good enough.

My mark III has only been stripped 4-5 times, no longer requires a mallet just my hand.

Have you threaded it yet for your can?

When you get around to shooting it suppressed send me your bolt and I will make you something special.

me? No I haven't got it threaded yet, I actually just got it back maybe two months ago from the guy doing the trigger and grip mod. Sounds good though I'll definitely take you up on it.

Thanks G, I appreciate it. Predator recommended I just bring everything in together once I get the can from my pusher. Should just be a few more months now...

Every time I have to disassemble and reassemble my Mark II I want to punch Bill Ruger in the mouth.

I get that when I think about 10 round magazines. Never dealt with the Ruger pistols. I know they are good, but lean toward Browning.

The Mk II had been my favorite .22 auto! I've had it about 10 or so years and I've had it apart only a couple of times. Too big of a PITA to put back together. The last time I had to get on Youtube and watch a video on how to put it back together. That helped a lot! Shoots as good as it ever did though.

I have to take one apart soon, hope there is a video on you tube or something. Dad bought one that has been stripped of the bluing, looks stainless at a distance, but is not. I am going to redo with gunkote or something (blue though).

There's a few good one on there so you should be ok. I guess it's not really hard just a PITA.

I had a modded MkIII that I loved, it was a pain until I found the magic formula via YouTube. You flip it upside down while assembling the mainspring so the little dingleberry that hangs down falls into place. That said I do miss my MKIII but my mosquito is so much easier to clean.

I had trouble at first but now I can break it down and reassemble it with no hassle at all. The more you do it the easier it gets.

I agree - like anything else, just takes practice and patience. I was gifted with a SS "Standard" - similar to the MKi about two years ago. I've had it apart at least two dozen times. I've even gone through and replaced the extractor and firing pin. Practice and patience - and thank goodness for YouTube.

I finally have mine down. After putting the bolt back in, I push on the hammer behind the strut with a dowl rod and "fire" the gun. That lets me get the mainspring thingy back in easily. Still have to hold it at funny angle to align the strut into the spring but I got it first try the last 2 or 3 goes.

Its never been that hard for me. I had a couple of fumbles while making the video but that was because I was talking and trying to film at the same time. Video is crappy but you get the idea.
