My 300 is finally done, I think

Recommended Posts

Here is my final version of my 300 Blackout AR (I hope).

300BlackoutAR.jpg

Stainless 16.25" McGowen 8 twist barrel threaded 5/8-24

Home made 304 SS thread protector

Pistol length gas system

Stainless Paladin adjustable gas block

Upper receiver squared to the bore

Bolt with a McFarland one piece gas ring

Carbine buffer and spring with custom delrin spacer

Magpul MOE fixed stock

Hogue pistol grip

Nordic Components tube with top rail, clearanced for gas block access

Cheap bipod

Nikon P-22 scope with BDC

Armalite rings

Stock [wink, wink] trigger

Magpul Pmags that have been clearanced for use with the 300 Blackout

My 240g cast bullets, at 1,025 fps, mimic 22lr at 1,420 fps out to 200 yards. So it was a no brainer to use a scope that is ballistically matched to a 22 lr. With the adjustable gas block I can shoot anything from 800 fps subsonics to supersonics at a blistering 2,300 fps.

It runs with subsonic handloads using Lil'gun, N110, 1680, 4227, 4198 and 2015. And because I cast my own bullets I can shoot this for less than most 22's. I can load each round for less than .06 each.

When was the last time I put an AR up for sale?

I know my memory is bad but I know I have't sold one since I have been on here.

Well, okay, it wasn't an AR, but it was the former iteration of a blackout rifle. Or maybe you traded it, can't remember, just knew it was a goner. :)

What gun was that?

The only gun I remember selling was a shotgun and a pistol or two.

Did you not start this .300 blackout thang with the bolt gun you brought out to the range a time or two? At least got rid of the barrel or something?

Perhaps I'm confused, I am getting on up there and all.

The bolt gun is bake together just as a 223 now.

Roger Dodger, all is clear now. :)

Got the PSA upper in, ran out and shot it yesterday, runs like a watch. You were right, mid length is smooth. Holler when ya want to go sling some more.

I load my cast bullet to mags length so the rib tends to push the bullets towards the center. I know this has caused me some problems with other mags. All you need to remove is the first 1/2" of rib and it is good. If the bullets nose in a 1/2" down the mag it is not an issue as long as they don't when they are resting on the feed lips. Don't go anymore otherwilse the anti tilt follower can nose down. The back can tilt down some after the mod but that is not as big of a problem as the front nosing down.

Looks good! It has a lot of similarities to my first iteration of the 300. I started out with a Nikon with BDC reticle. As you know, all my ammo is super right now, with relatively high BC bullets. I stuck an Aimpoint on it, but may rig a good scope on a QD mount so I can switch back and forth. I'll probably use turrets and drop tables for stretching the range. I plan to work into some heavier bullets.

I kinda like that stock.
