The confidence of having a shorter barrel, holding it level to drain, vs tipping it up....

I'll have to find the link to the field tests that were conducted in Iraq (I had them on my old computer). After real world trials the military found substantually no gain (and in one mfg a decrease) in function and reliability. The conclusion of the report was the 416 offered no increase over current M4's and wasn't recommended for adoption. 2 years later, it appears the jury is still out... a very long time for a product that was advertised as having a dramatic advantage...

They need to edit the spelling on that video....HK is leading "trough" technology

M4's work but seems the cooler running bolt-hot gas dumping into the receiver is a good idea all around. Easy barrel change no gas porting issue, flared mag well, free float forearm ...I want one too!

To me its just an AR with couple of improvments, good ones.

I read some where on internet they were going to import some for general public 16" of course in the end of 2008?

Alas they improved it. I do hate the gas system on the AR. I like companies that take an existing design and make it better.

Dare say, i still wouldnt want to carry it in the middle east... or any AR variant for that matter. Give me an AK for that environment any day.

When I was there in 1991, I carried a M16a1 and never had a problem with it. You just have to keep up maintence every day. It only took 10 or so minutes to open it up and brush or blow it out. I the Egyptians down the block aways did the same thing every day with their AKs and IMO the M16 was a more accurate rifle.

Too true. Funny how the elite Iraqi units are now issued ... M4s.

I watched the video... pretty cool looking!

It would seem that a piston driven AR would function better. Not

saying that the current ARs are junk or anything. I own one... and it has

been great. (Even for an Oly.;))

I've never been in the military, and I really don't expect to put mine

through any serious hostile environments or anything so it is fine with me.

But I am confused when something that seems like an improvement is

sort of shouted down. Is there some negative aspects to piston driven ARs

that I am missing? From what i have red and videos I have seen they look pretty neat.

Wouldn't mind having one myself... if i could afford one that is. :D

Oh no, don't tell me we are going to drink that hk416 kool aid. There's enough of that going around every where else..

I drink HK kool aid anyways, friend. No different than the glock kool aid... and the AR kool aid... and the 1911 kool aid. Everyone has their kool aid. :death:

I do love my AR's though... and all of the variants. Including this one.

Though it does kill me when (i believe) DC moved away from the G36 and to the 416. However they pretty much torched all of the "old" guns.
