A friend of mine is interested in an colt ar from wal mart. He was told by a co worker that those colts at wal mart had cheap parts in them and was very cheap made. Any truth to this ?

I too have heard such, but I dont believe it my self. However I have not held/shot one from Wal-Mart. Once Dolomite pipes in we will have the correct answer as he is the Top Dog on AR's.

The guy at my local walmart gun counter let me break one of their Colt AR's down a few months ago. I compared just about everything in it with my model 6920 (not from walmart). I could not find a difference.

Regardless of whether it came from Wal-Mart or the LGS, the rollmark still says Colt and it will reflect on Colt long after the place of purchase is forgotten. Colt knows that as well. They aren't sold for that much cheaper at Wally World to make a story like "Colt makes them out of substandard parts especially for WM" believable to me.

Here we go again.

If you buy a Colt 6920 at WalMart it's the exact same thing you would get from any other store of dealer. Same goes for their ammunition.

Urban legend. Just like Winchester White Box sold in Walmart is made in China and Wally's Ruger 10/22's are made from Taiwan parts assembled in Tierra Del Fuego.

Walmart's AR's are the same quality as any other seller gets. When they order an AR they do so from the same distributor as many other dealers. They are just as good as any other AR out there.

You can tell your friend that he has nothing to worry about, he will get a quality gun at a decent price. You can also tell him his coworker is a fear monger and an idiot.

$1098 last time I checked.

If thats the case just save him $148 + $100 in sales tax, down side he'll spend $20+/- in shipping and $25+/- transfer fee

I have a simple rule any gun over a grand is purchased out of state

I wonder where these rumors originate? Seems there's nothing to any of this yet the rumors persist. I'm guessing some FFL somewhere somewhen tried justifying the extra money spent in his shop to a gullible customer.

Interesting enough a similar rumor pervades the guitar market that large nation wide chains similarly receive subpar merchandise that the "ethical" independent shops won't take. There may be a shred of truth to that but then again I doubt it.
