Small rant - Verizon

I would get the iPhone.

That's how I have been leaning (today anyway, lol). I know I will miss the customization features of android, but iphone wins on reliability.

We're in Verizon-Hell right now on their shared-everything metered data plan. We recently switched from the coveted Unlimited data plan when I added a line to our plan for my mom. Their records showed we used about 2GB per month on average and could realize significant savings with the new plan. Since then the different lines on the plan at random will suddenly report 50% data used and then almost an hour later report 90% used, then they fall back down.

My wife had it out with them on the phone earlier and suddenly our reported data fell to something like 0.50 GB for the current month. Less than 6 hrs later it was back to reporting 50% used.

Seriously... W T F.

We've about had it with Verizon at this point. Their answer was for us to go ahead and upgrade to the next tier data plan or pay the overage and then submit to have it reimbursed to us. Um, not a chance in hell.

Good to know. I've been pondering their data sharing options but am suspicious of how they track it. Seems they don't know how they track it either.

Just lit up my new iPhone 5 about an hour ago. You can have the Droid. I'm gonna shoot mine with a large caliber.

What droid model did you have? I dropped my razr and cracked the glass and am in need of a possible replacement if it starts spiderwebbing.

Samsung Galaxy S. I won't inflict it on anybody else. It needs to die.

Ah. I haven't been a fan of the galaxy series phones. My ex had one and it was a junker.

No, which of course makes it clear that they shouldn't have moved to metered plans if they didn't have their metering technology figured out. Idiots.

I installed an app called "Dataman" on our iPhones so that we can watch what our data usage is and compare it to what Verizon says it is. We'll be having a very terse conversation with them again soon.

Thanks for the heads up. Currently our Verizon plan has 2 phones (mine and my wife) with the old unlimited plan and our two daughters on 2GB plans. I think I'll just leave it that way for now until things settle out and they get their crap under control.

In the 10 months I've had my phone, the phone's datalog has matched what Verizon metered within 100MB or so. I've compared them monthly to make sure.

I did have 100MB of use on the last day of my month's cycle, and it appeared on the next month's usage according to VZN. I had about 600MB before I reached my limit. Had I run the WiFi hard to "get my money's worth," getting as close to my limit as possible, I would have been robbing my next month's allowance of more than 100MB.

They clearly reset the meter before midnight. Oh well.

Well just an update for everyone I did finally get a refund from the seller on Ebay. I met up with a guy last night who had a 32gb iPhone4 for sale. We met at the Verizon store and got them to activate it on spot. I also went through the phone and made sure everything worked.

On another note though; with the move to sim cards on all of the 4G devices I wonder if Verizon will still blacklist the ESN numbers on there phones like they did these iPhones. I never had this problem with ATT because it was as easy as swapping the sim to the new phone. Must just be related to the fact that the iPhone is so sought after. Luckily I didn't get too burnt this time. Ya live ya learn.
