Spotted this thing on Nolensville Road today. With a few cameras on it.. From the markings I take it that it belongs to the NPD. But what is it for??? and is this some sort of mobile Big Brother device?

If you have a radar detector, does it set it off? If it's not a speed camera, the only thing I can think of is that it's one of those skywatch systems.

Mobile camera with live feed. We have several in Memphis. I would do most of my transactions in front of the one at the Bass Pro Shops. I figured if things went south there would be video evidence and people up to no good don't want to be anywhere near them.

Funny that it has a boot on it! No one can escape the parking nazis...

Down in New Orleans they chain them to light posts to keep the drunks from carrying them off/pushing them away. I imagine they are doing the same thing here.

Not in TN.

Really? and you get your information where? Travel up Hwy411 toward Madisonville and you will be introduced to one first hand

State law. Traffic cameras are legal in very limited applications. They require very strict posting and location requirements, and there are situations where they cannot be used (right on red, etc).

There are no camera speed enforcement units in Davidson County. That is a camera trailer placed in certain spots occassionally due to crime. I see you mentioned Nolensville Rd some crazy stuff happens on Nolensville Road. Probably only be there a short time. So much for the revenue generator ideas.

My guess is that the DOT is doing a traffic survey of the intersection. Set the camera up, let it record for a while, then watch the footage to determine volumes and such for potential light timing or traffic pattern changes. That may not be "conspiracy theory" enough for some, but such is life.

Apparently Eastern TN didn't get this memo.

True story! One of my coworkers got 2 tickets in the same day... he found out about them when he got the citations in the mail about a week after.

This would be my guess. That intersection always ranks in the top five busiest intersections in Davidson County.
