We pay $146.00 a year for AAA! If you need them, their just a phone call away! I needed them twice this year for a tow, they were on scene in 30 minutes!

Check the booklet that came with your Michelins (no doubt buried in the back of your glove box by now). Most Michelins come with free road-side assistance.

AAA used to be good for getting custom route maps printed up (free for members) but now we all have GPS and smartphones. The only thing I use AAA for is filing for an international drivers license when traveling outside the country. Usually a US DL is fine, but you never know when der Polizei will decide to make your life difficult.

I've belonged to AAA since I was 18...mostly for the free maps and travel guides that I've used extensively as well as discounts (most of which I qualify for now just because I'm an old fart). ;)

I've used them a couple of times to take care of speeding ticket "bonds" until I was home (I then reimburse AAA) and I've used their road side assistance as well. That said, if there is a major incident going one (big snow storm, freeze, etc) the companies they contract with may be too busy to be of much help but for sure, the older the vehicle the more I'd want to have them available.

AAA Gold. Even though we no longer drive clunkers. It's good to have. My wife had a dead battery once, I was at work. They showed up, tested and installed a new battery.
