Half the Democrats are mad at Obama, the other half are mad at Hillary. Most Republicans don't like McCain, and everybody hates Bush. This election is like a choice between a s__t sandwich and a s__t sandwich with mustard.----Mike

I know it won't happen... but I would love to see Hillary run as an independent

just to divide their party even more.

That was rumored (on the talk radio circuit) earlier on when Osama started pulling away from her.

She just seems so blindly driven to be in the White House that

she would cast aside what would be best for her party and focus

on her own personal goal with little thought that she could

help get McCain in there. I think she truly believes this is

"her time" and she is not going to listen to anyone that is trying

to tell her to back off. (IMHO)

And so starts the easiest take over of another country in worlds history....and the beginning of the demise.

Any vote for the Dem ticket is a vote against America, if they win you can expect the entrance of pure socialism. The things they want to do about health care in itself scare me to death. Give the government control ... please? If you want to see how that would work go and visit a Veterans Hospital... thats Government controlled health care at its finest.

I'm voting for McCain, and I'll hold my nose while I do it... I really think a DEM in the oval office would kill this country. Hopefully McCain will pick a good vp candidate, if he goes Romney I think all may be lost. The smart pick would probably be Charlie Crist of Florida, that is if he's still popular down there. That would put to bed carrying that state at the last minute like we've been worried about in the past.

I'm not quite ready to mourn. I'm not crazy about McCain, but no comparison to my dislike for Obama. Depending on McCain's selection of a VP, this could become quite a contest.

if obama picks hillary for vice he is going to need a food taster and she will probably recommend bill for the job.

I hear him likes tuna!

Not to be a killjoy but Obama will be our next President. You can speculate all you want but learn to deal with it. I to will vote for McCan't but it will not matter. We have survived(even thrived) democratic presidents before. These things are cyclic and the republicans time in the executive branch is up. I personally think that grassroots america needs to focus more on the legislature. Obama is inexperienced and that will definately affect his ability to actually get anything done. If he is a great President then he will only achieve about 40% of his goals. I just hope I can live with that 40%. Obama will be our next president....hell, he may even be a good one. As I watched the news today I couldn't help but notice the genuine positive emotional effect his nomination has had on many(primarily the black community and the global community) people everywhere. People telling stories of making there children watch his speech last night so they could remember when. A world in which my children (4 and 2) will not even think twice about having a black president. It is hard to deny the very real social effect. Then I thought......What if somebody kills him? Hillary as VP! We are so f*%ked!.:D

The biggest problem for the dems is going to be there split between Hilary and obama. They are split right in the middle, and I think that the greater percentile that supports hillary will not vote for obama.

This happening will be the only chance in hell we can get McCain in office!

Now if hillary goes VP,theeennnn we will be screwed! 2167_startled.gif2172_shocked.gif

The Dems were turning out voters at a 3 to 1 ratio. Even if all of Hillary's supporters stayed home Obama would still have half again the number of voters than McCan't. And besides if you were a Hillary supporter and your choices were Obama or McCan't who would you choose?

So I guess everyone forgot that Obamas mom is white...which actually makes him half and half and not just "black"....just saying its more like voting on Tiger Woods or Colin Powell...however at least they have "normal" names (well maybe Tiger isnt such a normal name). If everyone wants to call him the first Black president so be it. I sure hope no one here votes for Bob Barr as that would be about the same as voting for Obama(by costing McCain a much needed vote).

I thought about this.

Obama isn't really Black in any cultural sense. An American Black family will have family memories of Jim Crow and segregation, maybe even slavery. Much as my family has family memories of immigration and life on the Lower East Side and working in sweat shops.

Obama's family doesn't have any of that. He is just my age, so too young to remember segregation or experience it firsthand. His black father was an African so no memory of Black history in America.

It is a sham, a fake.

Devil's advocate here.........If Obama walked down the street in a t-shirt and jeans more likely than not people would perceive him to be "a typical black person." You can't tell he is Harvard law grad by looking at him. Alot of people claim to be all open-minded and beyond culturally ingrained prejudices but by and large I think that is bull****. The perception many have of young black men is that of want-to-be gangsta's that carry "foty's wit esstended clips yo." There are running jokes on this very board like that all the time. Whether or not Obama is well educated multi-cultural suburbia born and bred or not. He is black in appearance. That is really(unfortunately) all that many(black & white) will see.

No question you are right, Urse. He looks like a Black American. That is what people see.

My point is that he is missing that same cultural experience that Black Americans have had. His upbringing was not that different from my own.

What is black culture in America? If you are thinking that he wasn't raised in the inner city were he had to bob and weave to and from school and fight the temptation to be "jumped" into a gang and deal rock on the corner? Or maybe he wasn't raised in rural america were he had to avoid local rednecks whose ancestors once owned his ancestors on his way to one of his Uncles house for a weekend Bar-B-Q were dessert was watermelon and grape soda? Isn't it undeniable that a very large part of black "culture" is being black? Sure your upbringings may be similar but you choose to be Orthodox. If you shaved and put on a T-shirt and jeans then you are just another white guy. It doesn't matter what Obama does or doesn't wear he is still black. Good conversation Bill.

Whatever.

Condoleeza Rice talks about her sharecropper father in Alabama. Many other Black public figures had similar stories.

Sure, Obama grew up Black and I guess identified as such all along. But there is a piece missing. It's those family stories that get passed down that are formative in one way or another. It's one reason I like the South: for plenty of people here the Civil War is a living memory, in the sense that their families were part of it and handed down stories and feelings about it. Despite having a father born in Savannah GA I dont really have those same memories and feelings.

And I tend to think that Obama's upbringing and mine weren't all that different.

I'm sure Obama has his FUBU clothes and 6 pair of Jordans. Wait. He doesn't? Sorry, he would not be accepted into the black community in Memphis at all.

People would stare at him for being an oddly dressed, uppity, black guy. Not a man of the (black) people. He looks good on TV, and when giving speaches, sure. But his choice of Lacoste polos and the like separate him far from black culture.

It's official, the fist-bump clinches the nomination. Oh my God...:D

I think I threw up a little in my mouth.....

These people (Barak and Michelle) are among the most priveliged people in the entire world. Privileged in their upbringing, education, job opportunities, etc. For them to behave like rappers is like John McCain putting on bikers leathers.
