Brand new gun owner in Knoxville

I just wanted to say hello forum! I'm originally from Tullahoma but have been in Knoxville for about 16 years now. I just purchased my 1st weapon this morning at a show here in Knoxville. I made the decision to own a gun after a frightening encounter in my own driveway that thankfully ended well for me but could have turned out very badly.

My gun will be for defense only, I don't see myself ever becoming a shooting sportsman or hunter (eyesight not that great), so I'll be lurking here mainly, reading a lot and trying to learn all I should know to be a responsible gun owner. I'll be taking a CCP class next weekend, so please forgive my ignorance if I ask stupid questions.

Welcome to gun ownership and to the forum. It always starts with that first one :)

Welcome to TGO. There are no stupid questions when it comes to firearms and responsible firearm ownership. The search feature will probably answer a lot of questions for you, and if not there is a wealth of information in the members here.

What type of firearm did you end up getting?

even if you never become an avid shooter or hunter, please take the time on the range to fire a minimum of several hundred rounds after your HCP class. Follow up with refresher range sessions later on.

You want to a- become very familiar with your gun (safe handling and cleaning), b- increase your comfort, accuracy, speed, and muscle memory, and c- ensure that your weapon is reliable.

Hope you never have to actually use it in defense, but you are very effective in cases where it is necessary.

Thanks for the welcome folks! Major Kong I got a S&W .38 revolver. And R_Bert I do plan on becoming very familiar with my weapon, no since in having a tool if you don't know how to use it correctly!
