500+ Yard Range?

I am new to Nashville and need a place to shoot long range.

Are there any 500+ yard ranges near Nashville?

Even if I have to drive to Ky?

I can't find any rifle ranges over 400 yards near nashville.

There aren’t any (that I know of) except the base at Tullahoma, but we can’t shoot there unless it’s a match or something.

300 meters at Manchester is the longest I know of that you can walk on and shoot.

We need to take up a collection and buy a strip of land 50 yards wide and 1000 yards long. :)

You mention you're willing to drive to Kentucky, are you willing to drive to Knoxville? ORSA has a 1,000 yard range where you can shoot pretty much anything except 50 bmg. Also benchrest, indoor pistol, IDPA, skeet, etc.

It's a private range, membership is $150 a year. Best bargain on the planet.

Yes but not enough to justify $150.

I will probably only go a few times a year.

Looking for a walk on range.

Why do they not allow 50bmg's? That's silly!

We 50cal guys would show up in droves to shoot 1,000 yards!

I guess I'm going to have to get myself a .338 lapua now.

Okay, $120. I haven't had to pay it in 10 months. Give me a break.

I have no idea why. It makes no sense to me either but it's in "the rules".

There's one up in KY. Don't recall the name, or if it's walk-on. I think it's about as close as Oak Ridge, maybe closer.

It's because .50bmg is evil.

I'm thinking there may be a change in leadership after the club election, so you never know that rule may change soon as well.

Who do I need to vote for then? I normally stay well out of the political side of ORSA but I'm all for Hope and Change :D

They may have insurance limitations too. 50 BMG is just getting its second wind when it clears the 1000 yard berm.

And if I'm not mistaken, just a couple of miles past the backstop, is a government installation. Haven't been out that way in a while to recall what that exactly is just southeast of the range but I do believe they would frown upon bullets falling about.

To the left in this map is the range, to the right said facility. http://maps.google.c... Tennessee&z=14

Oh, and 50 BMG is just obnoxious.

Perhaps, but is Mr. Liability interested in the obvious? Just saying, it might have something to do with it. One high shot could easily pass over those ridges.

Then again, there is a proper concrete target pit down there. If I recall correctly the top is just about level with the berm in front of it.

Is that by the Barrett factory in Middle TN?

If you buy one of their pea shooters do they allow you access to a range near there?

It's a 30' high dirt berm, no concrete...

This range is where all the Barrett guys go, there is a bulldozer on site so I'm guessing the range gets luved regularly

That 120 is for you and your family, wife, kids.

As Garufa, pointed out, it is because of Y12 being on the other side of the hills, concerns for high shots is the reason I have heard. Not sure if true but I have heard in the past a few may have landed on the wrong side of the hill.

I have yet to shoot on the 1000 yard range but I have stood back and looked down range and it is a sight to see for sure. I do plan to shot on it a bit later. Also the 1000 yard range is not always open. They use the same range for other set distances as well. I don't know the stepping points but say, sometimes they might be on 400, 600, 800 or something. I believe they have a schedule they follow for theses. I need to check the calendar again.

Outpost Armoy and the Barrett factory are @ exit 89 on I24, the range is about 4 miles off exit 105, no they pay to play there to, I've been to that range 6 times, seen them there 3 times, 2 times they were doing R&D

That is the one I was talking about. That is the only 1000 yard range I know of.

Looks like member only for the 500-1000, and even they have to pay extra, if I'm reading it correctly.

Hell, think I'd join if I lived near it, only $850 for all the shooting AND golf and whatever other amenities.
