It is about people in Davidson/Nashvile getting a handle on these types of BS amendments that are indecipherable. But it's on the ballot so most voters will say yes, of course.

Same thing goes on in Knox County.

Same way in Orlando. I ended up leaving several blank.

Can anyone tell me what ammendment 3 on the Nashville ballot is about?

The way I interpreted it was, the amendment if approved, would allow the Sheriff's department to be able to also do some law enforcement duties that had previously been done by Metro PD. For example providing security detail assignments.

Of course I could be totally wrong.

Unlike all other counties in Tennessee in Davidson, the Sherriff is not the CLEO. It appears to me they want to modify the charter to give the Sherriff the authority to help enforce the federal immigration detention program.

But I could be wrong.

It will add the wording in the charter to have in writting the authorization for the Sheriff's Office to perform the courthouse security and other functions. It doesn't authorize any law enforcement power. They don't have law enforcement powers and won't have any while there is a Metro Charter. I could care less about them providing the security inside the courthouse because I know they won't be any better trained than the security guards they use now. But the ability to utilize 287g and the DNA tests are great. I wish they would just revoke the Metro Charter they have gotten this bighead because they are a metro government and forget they are only a city/county government.

Wow! If this is about 287g issues, how did I miss that? I read the language in Amendment 3 and decidd to vote for it, without even thinking along the lines of 287g. If I had known that, not only would iI have voted the same way I did, lol, I would have more strongly encouraged all my friends to do so as well. Enforcement of immigration laws MUST be done by all law enforcement types since our Federal government seems unwilling to do so.

I went back and read it again and it doesn't mention that straight out about 287g, I guess you have to connect the dots.

The specific section in the summary says, "...to authorize the sheriff to perform duties as may be unassigned by the charter, or currently assigned to the metropolitan chief of police, relating to the intake, processing, identification and questioning of arrestees, detainees, prisoners and other person in official custody.

It was their solution in response to the lawsuit that the Sheriff's Office doesn't have the power to enforce 287g. Ozment sued saying it should have been Metro PD not the Sheriff doing the program because they aren't LE. The County won the lawsuit but proposed this change to avoid future suits. I believe Don Hall just terminated the 287g program, i may be wrong but that's what I heard. But they will probably taking over courthouse security and maybe some other functions they haven't done before.
