help. stuck case in sizing die.

Recommended Posts

I still can't imagine a straight case getting stuck.

I am resizing range brass, and I was in my routine, when then suddenly I saw a case with damage to the rim that I had already loaded on the holder and was shoving into the die, before I could react, I had already shoved it into the die.  Then the whole rim tore off when I tried to extract it.  I tried to remove it on my own, pliers, vice, etc, then I got smart and thought about searching for this problem, and bingo.  I did ad another notch in the wisdom degree, always look at each case much more closely before I place it on the holder.

What I usually do for .223 (yes it's happened More than once) is take a sturdy screw and screw it into the flash hole. Then tighten the head down in a vice. Then take a punch and hammer and tap it on the bottoms side of the die. The key is to use a very large punch, bc if you use a small one you will damage the die

Ugh, I just got my first case stuck night before last. A .223 that I apparently missed in the lube stage. The shell holder ripped the case rim off. It's stuck gooood...

The good thing about the stuck case remover is when it is drilled and tapped, it pulls from the center, releasing tension, I guess,

from the walls of the case. It takes a bit more banging from the top of the die, if you get that far. Hint. :D Stuck case die on the

ready keeps it from happening, also. Man, you don't know how careful I am at .223 cases, nowadays. :D

Been tellin' ya. Use the green goop. I size all my rifle brass with a coax press. it's nearly impossible to stick a case with that thing, because the die floats, and the shell holder completely surrounds the rim.
