Ive been wanting to do a hamon since I started making knives in March of 2011. I dont really like shiney blades so I never tried one. I decided to give it a shot through trial and error, I wanted to see if I could make one with a "dirty" color. Well, after five times of trying different methods, resanding in between, I think I finally got it. What ya think?

Chris' scales are awesome. The crotch walnut that's on the Willow Camp knife in my possession are unbelievable. Every angle has a new appearance, and their mild contour fits the hand perfectly for a comfortable secure grip.

Awesome knife up there, love the hamon!

Try using box elder. I have done a lot of work with it and it is an amazing looking wood. It goes from a very vibrant blood red to a orange than makes it look like it is on fire. Most people throw it away as a trash wood but we would search the ends of the earth for it. I made bowls mostly but did make a few benches as well.
