I'll give you all a hint, well actually no I won't. Mwahahahaha!

At least I know it didn't break on the first little task. So theres a few nerves gone lol.

Can I jump in? I've got a moderate case of blade-bug and this sounds like a cool thing in which to take part!

Maybe I can find a cool way to use it when I change out the pickups and put a variable active boost kit in my PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow. :-)

Ok so here we go! First a few more picks of the knife.

And one with a 308. For a width reference.

Pretty beefy!

So anyway, I had these vines growing on the corner of the fence for a while now they looked good but were causing damage so they had to go.

Amongst the vines also had some other mysterious bush/small trees groing.

This one was a little over an inch in diameter. It was tough, flexible and green, the kind of stuff a lesser blade will bounce right off of.

Not this knife...

One swipe. That's all she wrote. Funny thing is I was just taking a warmup swipe, never even touched the plant, I think the Bowie just intimidated it into falling off broken.

So anyway ten minutes of chopping yanking and now the fence looks much better.

Got a few trees to trim up for the winter, post that tomorrow. Might also grab a few other thing to chop, smash, cut as well. I'm seriously tempted to take this thing to a cinder block, I have no doubt it would win but I don't way to be TOO rough on it as its not mine.

Don't bust the handle, and sharpen it before you pass it along, and you can be my guest. I'm glad its performing well, this gives me a boost in confidence.

Ok day two. Mostly just did some make work so far today.

Chopped up a fallen sage orange into little bits. For those that may not know these are inedible seed pods about the size of a softball and very solid. I have been told but can't confirm that they were used as impromptu weapons during the civil war. Not sure if that's true but these could easily knock some someone clean out if thrown at their head.

The knife went through them like butter, I could basically just let it fall under its own weight and it would cleave right through on its own.

Next up cleared some lower branches off some peach and apple trees. This was more light chopping where the Bowie performed admirably. This may look like a knife but I gotta tell you it's really a long bladed hatchet.

So that's it for now, nothing to exciting but so far the Flatwoods Forge Bowie has done everything I've asked and done it well.

Now to see if I can find some coconuts for some authentic piña coladas.

Personally I'd give it a solid 10. It would be nice to have something a bit lighter for camping but when you take it into account the fact that you can leave the hatchet at home the weight makes sense.

One thing I would say is that it would be nice to be able to hold it backwards, then it could serve as a hammer on the backside to drive tent spikes and whatnot. Overall though I was very impressed plus like I said in one of your other threads I love the raw civil war era look.

I'm glad you liked it. When you say hold it backwards, do you mean edge up and use the back on the blade to drive stakes, or holding backwards and using the butt cap to drive them? I'm always getting ideas on how to incorporate new and useful things into my knives. I can't wait to see what test you other guys come up with.

So far the results and list:

Trickynicky (Tested, scored 10/10, shipped to next person)

Ok so the last test was done today and the Bowie will be shipped to Maroonandwhite in the AM.

So here we have our coconut. It's a nice one too.

The first thing we have to do is shave it to get rid of all the excess fibers then dig a hole in one of the dark spots that look like bowling ball holes.

Here's a shot of the coconut draining its juice to save for later.

Next your supposed to tap along the side until it splits. This kind of motion is what I was talking about being slightly harder than it has to be.

Tapping the sides was as boring as it sounds. Here's what happens when you decide to liven it up.

A nice big pile of coconut.

Colada makins!

So the good news is the knife once again performed great. Basically let it fall under its own weight with minimal effort and it took care of the rest. The bad news is I made the WORST drink I've ever made and I hate freaking coconut!

So all in all how do I feel about the Flatwoods Forge Bowie?

Good stuff. While I don't mind eating the flesh (fresh, not that nasty shredded packaged crap), coconut drinks are :puke: .
