Personal record of firearms

Got this email from a bullseye list and it made me remember that I haven't made a personal record of my firearms. Photos, particularly showing the serial number appears to be a good idea.

There is a thread running on the CMP forum about this a fellow who got hit, some sad stories here and lessons to be learned!

I think tough times brings the bad out of people looking for ways to come up with cash, we may be seeing more of this problem in the near future. Photograph, document and lock up those treasures and put a rider on your home owners policy for them, doesn't cost that much!

Im currently using this program until I get off my butt and actually write something myself. ftp://ftp2.somanyroads.org/gunsafe/GunSafe28.zip

I need to develop a web based version so in the case of a fire or theft of my laptop/backup I am not SOL.

I just made up a simple .pdf template with all the pertinent info and a picture of each side of the gun. Storing them online isn't too bad of an idea. I'll have to look into it.

Consider having more than one copy in more than one place. I don't trust any one computer.

I keep several things on my password protected jump drive I have on my key chain. Could just plug into the USB port of any computer at the PD and pull the info right up.
