Sp101 is a small-medium framed 5-shot revolver in .357mag

Gp100 is a medium-large framed 6-shot revolver in .357mag.

Gp100 is a service sized revolver. Sp101 is a compact concealable revolvet.

That about sums it up, but make no mistake the 101 is IMO not really "compact" so much as smaller than the 100. The sp would be a bit large/heavy for say a pocket carry.

Love my gp100, my bedside/bump in the night gun.

Just my personal opinion but i wouldny buy a revolver that wasnt either a ruger, colt, or smith. And the ruger will most likely be more affordable than the others

The gp100 would be my choice unless you were carrying then it would be the sp101.

I'm even narrower than that. I won't (never have) buy a revolver that isn't a Smith. Nothing against Ruger.

SP101 comes in both SA/DA with conventional hammer:

and in DAO model with spurless hammer:

Some have adjustable rear sights, most don't.

GP100 are all SA/DA with conventional hammer and adjustable rear sight:

Only one current model does not have adjustable rear sight.

Both models come with various barrel lengths, but only the GP has a 6" option.

I was talking about cowboy guns. I have a hankering for a Single Action Army

Yeah, I know. Didn't mean to look like I was responding to you. Which is why I didn't quote you. :)

I can't hold a candle to CapByrd, but I'm quite the Rugerite nonetheless.

Revolver-wise, I have an SP, GP, and Blackhawk, the 3 major .357mag Ruger food groups.

Dang I gotta get into a 101 so I can catch up to OS.

You know, I honestly think Ruger might be my favorite firearm manufacturer all told. Their stuff isn't the prettiest but all the ones I've owned are just incredibly solid, utilitarian guns. Add in the fact that I can afford them and its only for the sake of variety that I even buy anything else.

Smith is a nicer gun "outta the box" but they don't have near as much potential. Smith doesn't get their own page of reloading data like "Ruger & Contender only".

Ruger is like a 4 bolt main block with a 2 barrel carburetor. They require a couple of mods and then they usually blow the competition outta the water.

Your talking about hot handloads.Competition is whole nother argument.USPSA,IDPA,PPC revolver divisions as well as the sport of ICORE are all dominated by S&W.No other revolver brand has the light, smooth and quick reseting trigger that S&W does.

Yeah, you don't see too many Ruger race guns. I'm guessing that can be attributed to the fact that ole Bill never cared enough to build a better trigger. Shame. Their triggers can be made to be VERY nice. It just takes a lot more work.
